DJ 1Mic - Return Of The MCs Vol.5 Hosted by Torae

It's been Awhile since I was able to post back to back mixtapes up on here and even longer since I felt truly confident in both of them musically being worth people's time....Well, today is a good day (night actually) being that I'm bringing you guys the M.Will tape posted below and this new Mix; DJ 1Mic's fifth installment of "Return Of The MCs", which is being made available for free download on the Duck Dwn Records' website blog......

On "Return Of The MCs" you'll find a heap of tracks that are street ready and widely considered some of the best joints of the year thus far. From a bunch of exclusives off of that new Marco Polo and Torae (who also hosts) "Double Barrel" album to a bunch of remixes and a good dose of Statik Selektah production.....There's even a bunch of stuff on here I am not too familiar with and haven't heard. Tracks to check for are "Baking Soda 2009" by JFK and Termanology, "Deadly Toxins" by Reks, "Ruthless" by Sean Price and "Army By Myself" by Nipsey Hustle, Jay Rock and 2Pac.....

M.Will - A Journey Through Space And Time

Brand new Mixtape from M.Will The Shogun, who in case you didn't know is the son of legendary beatmaker Marley Marl. Now of course, as we all know being the son of a legend means exactly nothing, except, well, that your a son of a legend....In this case however M.Will has successfully managed to step out of the giant shadow cast by his father and produce a project that is all his own and firmly establishes his standing as one of the underground's bright new beatmaking stars.

Featuring a crafty, jazz infused production style, M.Will manifests dope beat after dope beat for a host of diverse emcee's including El Prez, Quest, TreaZon, Termanology, Hassaan Mackey and Nero amongst others.....Do yourself a favor and pick this up, although it's short (only 11 tracks) it is a proper introduction to M.Will's music.....

Single: Fashawn - The Outer City (prod. by Exile)

This is the bonus track off of Fashawn's new iTunes single "Freedom". Prepping his upcoming LP "Boy Meets World", Fash drops a perfect setup for Cali underground heads and underground heads in general....

The Fresno, CA emcee who I've been promoting on Purehip-hop for a minute, now links up with one of the hottest producer's in L.A. at the moment and a true purveyor of the music since the late 90's in Exile, who will also be lacing a good amount of the album....Here Fashawn goes in over a laid back, spacey joint that is true production genius.....The sing songy delivery and slice of life tale that Fashawn kicks matches up perfectly....Be sure to go out and cop "Boy Meets World" on September 1st.

Oddisee Music Presents...Odd Summer EP

Oddisee has really owned 2008 and 2009....Hitting us again and again with release after release of good, underground boom bap. On "Odd Summer" we have yet again another semi-potent dose of Oddisee's great production and emceeing. Filled primarily with Instrumental tracks there are some exclusive works on here that staunch Oddisse fans haven't heard anywhere else, i.e. "In Your Eyes", "Sligo Creek" and the "That Day" instrumental....

On a lil' side note in case your wondering about the cover artwork (which is one of the more stunning sunset's I've ever seen and I live in Colorado), it's a real photo of Omdurman (Khartoum, Sudan) that Oddisee took himself....Apparently he spent every summer there growing up....Lucky cat right? Enjoy the EP....Oddissee for best artist of 2009!

R.Thentic - AtManDana Vol.1

Brand new 33 minute mix from NYC underground beatmaker R.Thentic Goodrich that is absolutely dope! Best known for being the man behind Mos Def's "Glow" track, R.thentic gives us his new project "AtManDana Vol.1" that features vocal's from underground luminaries such as Homeboy Sandman, Ced Hughes, Kurious, Co$$ and Master Teacher to name just a few. This spacey, creative and imaginative piece of expansive work is no doubt a great release that rivals Dilla's recently leaked "Jay Stay Paid" in terms of it's diversity....."AtManDana Vol.1" is the first installment of R.Thentic's series of new material he's hitting us with so be on the lookout for vol.2 pretty soon, I know I will be.....

Video: Soul Assassins ft. Evidence & Sick Jacken - Classical

New vid from DJ Muggs' new compilation LP "Intermission" dropping next month on the 23rd!! "Classical" is the first single and yes it is a banger of epic proportions that features Psycho Realm emcee Sick Jacken and The Weatherman himself Evidence delivering smart verses that help this cut live up to it's title.....A dope blue mystique resonates throughout the vid and the look is completely unique....director Punit Dhesi really gets a truly ill visual on this.....the use of the chinese dragon dancing costume was a dope touch...enjoy!

Single: Nicolay - "Nautilus" A Tribute To Bob James

Back in 06' Dutch Hip-Hop producer and one half of the group Foreign Exchange Nicolay was approached by some folks who claimed to be representatives of legendary jazz man Bob James.....Apparently they were putting together a project that was to be titled "Sampling Bob James", which was supposed to feature a bunch of Hip-Hop producer's and DJ's re-working James' 1974 classic and perhaps the most sampled record of all-time within Hip-Hop; "Nautilus". Nicolay signed on for the project and began work post haste, however the eclectic beatmaker decided not to sample the record, but rather perform a cover of it and totally re-create it....Anyway, long story short the "project" was shelved and never officially saw a release. Nicolay's "Nautilus" did make it online however and now you owe it to yourself to grab this ultra dope remake...

Single: Quite Nyce - I Am But I Ain't

Brand new joint from up and coming New Jersey emcee Quite Nyce titled "I Am But I Ain't". Here we find one half of the duo that gave us "The Champs Vs. The League" earlier this year with Radar Ellis kickin' some pretty straight talk at the rap game.......Over a sinister "Halloween"-type of piano loop Nyce breaks down the complexity of what he is, and well, what he isn't, but more importantly what you perceive him to be. Enjoy, and make sure to be on the look out for Nyce's upcoming solo LP coming at you sometime this fall....

Video: Jake One Ft. Vitamin D, Maneak B, Ish and Note - Home

This Amazing new video from producer Jake One's debut LP "White Van Music" will now forever be synonymous with my perfect vision of the true Seattle Hip-Hop scene....I can think of no better representation of the city ever done at any other point in time. A bunch of great cameos happen in "Home", my favorite being Sir Mix A Lot setting things off on DJ Supreme and his homie in the beginning, dropping a loose bill and speeding off in his orange lambo, that or Seattle Seahawks wide out Nate Burleson reppin' at the barbecue...LOL, classic!

You can basically spot anybody who's anybody in the Sea Town underground in this wonderfully directed vid, hats off to Zia, the man put together a great vision for Jake....best video of the week easily! Go cop "White Van Music"!

R.I.P. Camu Tao

It was a year ago today that the underground Hip-Hop scene lost one of their true champions Camu Tao, to Cancer waaay too soon....I leave you with some words about Camu from his good friend Cage....:

"May 25th 2008 I got a call informing me Tero had passed away.I had just spoken to him days before this call.We were working via phone on a song he produced for me(Follow the Bleeder)I could hear he was in the hospital and I asked him if he was alright and he said he wasn't feeling well and just had to get some things checked out."Don't worry"he said"I will be okay, I will talk to you later when I get out of here."That was the last thing Camu ever said to me.Life hasn't been the same.He was my closest friend.I spoke to him more than I spoke to anyone in life.I am still bitter and everything has lost it's flavor no matter how surreal everything is right now.And I know he would be jumping up and down saying 'YEAH WE DID IT" (something he would always say whether or not it had anything to do with him)He had the ability to celebrate the smallest accomplishments and get me in hysterics about anything. He helped me in music and more importantly he helped me in life.He was a beautiful person with an effortless talent and I know people throw the word genius around loosely to compliment each other or in some cases themselves but TERO SMITH WAS A MUSICAL GENIUS.I miss him very much and I will never be the same again.I think of him everyday.
Rest In Peace brother.

Listen to Camu Tao songs all day today and remember.
I listen to Camu Tao songs everyday and so should you
."

Single: Darrell "Digga" Branch ft. Chaundon, Torae, Sha Stimuli and Skyzoo - NY Is #1

It does this old NY Hip-Hop head well to se some of the old, dope names from back in the day start to re-emerge and work with the new breed....Case in point we have Digga Branch, the man responsible for a lot of Cam's early success and the production for one of the all-time greatest group's ever in The Children Of The Corn returning to the scene to create some buzz for his upcoming LP "Person Of Interest", that will drop this fall.

Here we have Digga lacing up arguably the top 4 new vocalist's in New York City, in Brooklyn's Stimuli, Skyzoo, Torae and the Bronx J Leaguer Chaundon....The four weave in and out of the sinister piano loop like second nature and remind all the herbs why NY is still on top....

Single: DMX - The Way It's Gonna Be

New shit from the Darkman and I gotta say it's a serious banger that could easily be mistaken for somethin he did in 98' or 99'....Damn...really hope he stays on this path...Haven't heard him churn out a record like this in some time.....The cynical side of me says don't get too overly excited, but I'm sorry, I got to...I was a huge X fan back in the day, and like many others I've been waitin for him to pick up where he left off somewhere around "Grand Champ".

On "The Way It's Gonna Be" X rocks over an intense Rock sample, letting everyone know the dog is back!

Video: Snowgoons feat. The Savage Brothers & Lord Lhus - Who Are You?

New joint from the seminally talented Euro production team The Snowgoons titled "Who Are You?", off their upcoming "A Fist in the Thought" album, that is dropping on the 26th of this month via Babygrande Records. The album is a collab between the Snowgoons and Columbia, SC hardcore rapper's Lord Lhus and The Savage Brothers....

"Who Are You?" is nuts, from it's razor edged rhymes courtesy of the Savage Brothers and Lhus to it's campy, low budget street vid imagery. Definitely a dope first single/vid to put out....If you like hardcore shit dive in kiddies...

News: Jay-Z Officially Parts Ways With Def Jam

On Thursday Morning the Jigga man himself contacted YN of RapRadar.net to confirm that yes, in fact, he has parted ways with the legendary Label after more than a decade. Hova reportedly had to buyout his own contract for $5 million dollars in order to leave the label....

Now given the chance to be an independent emcee many expect Hov's next project "The Blueprint 3" to drop via his own record company Roc Nation, but at press time no official word has broke about when the record will drop or on what label....

Brinks Boys Presents Raekwon - Staten Go Hard Vol.1

Keeping with the theme of new Wu-Tang mixtapes for the evening I bring ya'll the new Raekwon tape "Staten Go Hard Vol.1"....filled with a heap of new material from the Chef your best plan is to go ahead and grab this even if you are unaware of who exactly the Brinks Boys are and even if you are like me and your not too keen on the tape's title track that is a reworking of Jay-Z's "Brooklyn We Go Hard", a song that I just really hate in many ways.....

Aside from a few small misgivings this tape is filled to the brim with excellent music that finds Rae alongside his new right hand producer BT and some of his many Hip-Hop acquaintances including AZ, Busta Rhymes and Crooked I.....Rae successfully drops an excellent prelude to his highly anticipated "Only Built For Cuban Linx II", which last I heard, will in fact drop this coming August!

U-God - Bring Back God Mixed by Y-Not AKA Twilite Tone

Brand new and free mixtape from U-God, the Wu-Tang clan's most under exposed member, who's currently gettin' set to release his new LP "Dopium".

In anticipation for the new record U-God has decided to break off his loyal followers with a free download and it's well worth the space on your hard drive. I've gone through this tape and I have to say it's def. worth the clicks people.....If for nothing else that "New Classic" joint that features Large Professor...."Men2Mice" and "Dilla & Zilla" are two really ill new joints on here that I'm sure Wu heads will enjoy also.....I know I've been waitin for awhile to hear U-God just get loose and churn out some good songs.... Personally I also find this tape in a lot of ways to be album material and I would compare this free release to Killah Priest's free mixtape that he dropped on his site earlier this year. They both contain a surprisingly high amount of ill material to be free is what I mean......pretty good taste U-God drops here, no question...... I ain't mad at him at all....

peep it out and go buy "Dopium" on June 23rd.....

M-Dot - M.oney D.oesen't O.wn T.hought Mixed by Pauly Fingaz Hosted by DJ TKO

Boston has always been a strong force within Hip-Hop and has always been a breeding ground for the urban music scene's brightest and longest lasting stars....From yester year royalty like Edo G. and Guru to modern day luminaries like Reks and Termanology, Beantown has always been a sure shot when it came to good Hip-Hop. You may now enter in East Boston and Revere, MA native M-Dot to that long and illustrious list of dope emcee's and hopefully you'll one day be able to put him on the short list of all-time greats from the area....

I know, I know, it's high praise for a guy that's relatively new to the game, but I believe the Italian American who already has released 2 dope albums ("Education Musically Spoken" & "E.Very M.an S.truggles") and 8 mixtapes that all had 23 to 25 tracks on them has the work ethic needed to succeed and even become a household name one day. Of course whether the former Massachusetts College Of Liberal Arts hooper becomes a superstar in the underground or mainstream in inconsequential to me...he's skilled, he picks beats well and he's already collab'd with some of NY's best like Joell Ortiz, Agallah and Sha Stimuli as well as thrown down with the reigning heavyweights from his neck of the woods in 7L, Krumb Snatcha and Akrobatik.

Here we have Dot's latest tape and it provides more of his tireless work ethic and sound fundamental skill. "M.oney D.oesen't O.wn T.hought" picks up where Dot's other stellar tapes left off, giving you a healthy dose of good music that includes him spotlighting his own skills, those of his crew members and collabing with a few big name artists....Dot is being brought along slowly and progressively and he lands another easy W here....

Basicali - I Choose You EP

Gio Basicali is an L.A. based Indie artist, former front man of the Hip-Hop band Homestyle and you have been sleepin' on him majorly.....One of the few cats on the forefront of bringing back feel good, conscious Hip-Hop to Los Angeles and surrounding areas, the solid emcee and former youth minister has obliged Hip-Hop by releasing his new EP "I Choose You" with the help of Acrylick Clothing....The 5 track EP is the picture portrait of dope underground/Indie music and gets my nod as one of the illest EP's of the year.

Whether matching the breakneck drums on "Get Free" with tales of hardships within his life, breaking down his gifts and how he relays them on the ultra soulful "Roses", showing his love for knowledge and a blue collar lifestyle over a familiar sample flip on "I Choose You", speaking candidly to his audience about all the terrible Hip-Hop out there on "Fuck Pluggin'" or celebrating the thought of redemption on "Second Chance", this diverse and well executed EP is what you need in your life....

Single: DJ JS-1 ft. Large Professor - Like This

This joint is beyond ill....gotta give it the jam of the week status easily....I'm also extra excited about this new JS-1 "No Sell Out Ground Original 2" album that's droppin on June 23rd, but i'll get back to that....

If you don't know about JS-1 and how he's an incredible DJ and a member of the Rock Steady Crew, you need to catch up....Starting out with "Like This", a new joint off his upcoming LP that features a legend in his own right, Large Professor on the mic would be a good start.....

This is real Hip-Hop bar none....nothing but an ill verse, a dope, well done boom bap beat (that I'm not really sure who produced, sounds like JS-1, but I would understand if Large Pro did it too) and JS-1 on the 1's and 2's....this is pay dirt, grab it and enjoy it til the 23rd rolls around and then you can pick up "Ground Original 2", which btw is suposed to feature a grip of your fav. emcee's including Krs-One, Pharoahe Monch, Canibus, Ultramagnetic MC's, Masta Ace, OC, Ill Bill, Torae, C.L. Smooth, Chino XL, Big Noyd, Blaq Poet, Brother Ali, J-Live, Supastition, Pumpkinhead, Edo G, Slaine, Akrobatik, Rakaa, Copywrite, Q-Unique, Vinnie Paz, Aesop Rock, Termanology, Killah Priest, Sean Price, Craig G, Sadat X, Rahzel and more!!! Single: Marco Polo & Torae ft. Masta Ace & Sean Price - Hold Up

Yoooooo, just when I couldn't really wait any longer for another leak off that new LP from Torae and Marco Polo "Double Barrel", they go ahead and hit us with "Hold Up" that features Ace (a Hip-Hop legend) and Sean P (soon to be a legend), two guys that no matter who or what they rhyme on bring out the best in the music. The formula for this record is pretty simple; Marco grabbed a classic sample, flipped it differently than anyone had before and then stood back and lets his mans and them catch wreck all over it....Sorry people, Mic Tyson had the illest verse by far....

News: Konvict Muzik Artist Gunned Down In L.A.

By now many have already heard the news that broke yesterday about Konvict Muzik (Akon's Label) recording artist Dolla AKA Roderick Anthony Burton II. The Chicago born rapper and former Sean John Model who was currently making his home in Atlanta, GA was shot and killed in the Beverly Center Mall valet area in Beverly Hills, CA, around 3:10 PM according to the L.A. Times. Apparently the shooting ensued after Burton and another rapper, DJ Shabazz, engaged in a fight and argument with at least one other man. According to witnesses at the scene a woman was seen firing a handgun during the altercation. Dolla had just flown out to L.A. that morning to continue working on his much delayed debut album.

As of today TMZ reported that the LAPD has named no official suspects despite holding Aubrey Berry, the 23 year-old man who fled the scene in a silver Mercedes SUV and was found at the Los Angeles International Airport terminal with a gun on his waistband....Burton was 21 years old.....Berry's bail has been set at $1 Million dollars.

Donny Goines - The Breakfast Club

These days the New York Hip-Hop scene is heavily diluted and few names have risen to the occasion of returning the city back to it's glorious prominence of the mid nineties....I've written on here before that Donny Goines is one of the few names that has come literally out of nowhere to grab the city's underground scene by the horns and has churned out a bunch of heady music, most of which is often politically tinged and socially conscious via all mediums including battling, the radio shows or mixtape appearances....

"The Breakfast Club" is Donny's sophomore LP, that he himself decided to give out free for download....The album features Donny showcasing his "lighter" side and joining forces with many a guest collaborator including Emilio Rojas, Naledge, Peter Hadar, Che Grand, Termanology, Reks, Skyzoo, Poison Pen, Planet Asia, A.Pinks, Esso and more......

Overall the LP is a good listen, but comes off sounding like a compilation because of all the guest spots and at times it feels rushed and unpolished.....Sorry, I am a big Donny Goines supporter, but I prefer when he's kickin knowledge, not quoting that idiot Main-O, modifying his flow to be more marketable (see "Whatever It Is") or collabing with Mistah F.A.B.....Despite the obvious mis-steps on here there are some glorious triumphs....No matter what happens I'm saving "Sublime" to my iPod and throwing it on a CD-R too, that joint is just too cold and IMO is the album's lone indisputable gem....I also dug "A Love Song" a lot. "Digital Genocide" and "Grateful" are dope tunes and "Can't Get It Right" is any struggling 24 yr. old's anthem complete with honesty and a well thought out theme.....I definitely wish that this whole album could've taken those types of directions musically.....

All in all, this is bumpable, but as far as grabbin' joints from Apple Juice Kid and watering down his rhymes, I can't co-sign or request too much more of that at all....We wanna hear the "These Times" version of Donny Goines!....Which I'm sure Goines will return to in time.

Gets a 7 outta 10...

Just in time for his new LP "Jay Stay Paid" the second portion of the Dilla Anthology put out by Rapster Records has dropped. Damu The Fudgemunk - The Same Beat Project EP

Putting it plain and simply, Damu The Fudgemunk is one of the nicest cats I've ever witnessed on the MPC 2000....point blank period. Trust me I know when someone is nice on it, I own one myself, and yes Damu's youtube vid's are part of the reason I now know how to use the track mute button....At any rate, anytime he drops somethin' I always make sure to peep it out and 10 times outta 10 he delivers...."The Same Beat Project" is no exception as Damu flexes his talents that not only include beatmaking but also rhyming. Highlighting his own vocal version of "The Same Beat" as well as one version that features his Y Society groupmate Insight and Breez Evahflowin' on it and then finishing up with a joint called "This Advice" by Y Society, this EP isn't that deep track wise, but every song is in fact a keeper....Good, funky and soulful boom bap, download away kids....

P.S. While your at it peep this vid of Damu Live on the MPC 2000 while Junclassic and NYallah rip it down on the street....another dope aspect about Damu as an artist is the fact that he will take it to the street on you real quick for a corner performance....truly Hip-Hop!

Cage - I Never Knew You EP

Earlier I gave you guys the new vid from Cage, now I give you the EP itself that goes by the same title; "I Never Knew You"....Once again let me reiterate that this is somethin a lil' different compared to the old Cage some of you might remember from early Rawkus and Def Jux.....The man is experimenting with a new sound, so go in with an open mind....Personally I think he might be onto somethin', creating a new genre and whatnot..He's really redefining a few things well and he's got a brand new take on the whole rock/Hip-Hop mashup thing.......Lyrically the substance and pain is still there, just formatted and delivered a lil' differently......Each song comes individually so you'll get a chance to pick and choose....

Single: Breez Evahflowin ft. Swave Sevah & Shaneeka Harrell - It's Over

Our mans Breez Evahflowin comes thru and blesses all those that should be listening up with a heartfelt and serious single about aging within the rap game, hoping, searching and waiting for that big break. Breez enlists Swave Sevah to help him speak on a subject that we all know too well in chasing those ever elusive dreams and aspirations. The way breez detaches from himself and spits raw commentary about his trials and tribulations attempting to make it is amazing....truly ill stuff was put down on "It's Over", all while Shaneeka Harrell blew it down beautifully in the background....a five outta five.....be sure to peep Breez's upcoming LP "Breez Deez Treez" droppin' sometime this coming Summer.....

Single: Grand Puba ft. Kid Capri - This Joint Right Here

I figured I should put this up too while I'm catching up on all the ill singles that have been circulating lately.....

Dope newness from the legendary Grand Puba and Kid Capri....The two hall of famer's got together to do a cut for Puba's new LP "Retro Active" (that drops on June 23rd) called "This Joint Right Here"...A real, true to life party starter, I co-sign this record to the fullest....this is how a real emcee and a real DJ get the joint jumpin'.....All my Brand Nubian fans make sure you check this out....there is one minor tag in the middle, don't sweat it, just go buy the album in a few weeks, it'll def. be worth it....

Single: Defari - Show Some Luv

Promo for Defari's new single "Show Some Luv" that dropped about a week ago roughly. Produced by DJ Khalil, this joint is pure L.A., west coastin' stuff people. Khalil does an uncanny Dr. Dre impression via a hard hitting, piano key laced beat while Defari once again flexes his undeniable lyrical prowess.....It's damn good to know that Defari is still out there doin' it....was wonderin what he'd been up to for awhile....At any rate, the clean and instrumental version's are included....

Blaq Poet - The Blaqprint Album Sampler

Well, we've all been anxiously awaiting this record since Poe dropped the vid for the amazingly dope "Ain't Nuttin' Changed" record. I felt then that "The Blaqprint" would definitely exceed my expectations...it definitely sounds like Preme is in the zone and Poe is poised to match that energy with well delivered rhymes.....

I took the time to bump this 20 minute sampler that I think covers most of the whole album, and from beginning to end things are clicking on all cylinders....def. a anticipation builder.....

Single: Jazmine Sullivan ft. Coultrain - Jumpoff (Prod. by Waajeed)

The funky Hip-Hop drum break style of Detroit production mainstay Waajeed meets the lyrical and soulful voice of Jazmine Sullivan on this new, unreleased gem from Jazmine's "Fearless" LP that dropped last year (go grab that, you won't be disappointed). How she decided to leave this off the final release is nuts....this joint is excellently produced with Waajeed supplying the thick production, complete with funky staccato horn chords. There is a real story behind the track as well....the best story in fact, lol, that being the one about lying, lust & love, hurt feelings, a mentality that plagues and of course the he said she said....lol, your remember that story right?? Enjoy...

Video: Cage - I Never Knew You

Amazingly depressive and artsy, "I Never Knew You", the new video from underground staple Cage is strikingly forward thinking, and definitely genre bending.....This is new and actually doesn't disappoint me, but rather effectively displays what exactly Cage has been up to musically and gives you a pretty intense visual....Directed by actor Shia Lebeouf (who is rumored to be playing Cage in a new bio pic) the symbolism in the direction is well done...from the glowing woman to the ground collapsing under the kid's feet, I think I might of actually gotten it....As far as Cage's verses go, it's no mistaking that he's on a different trip nowadays; this isn't the same guy that once upon a time dropped Agent Orange on us and was beefing with Eminem.....Nah, those glorious days of backpacking and Rawkus are gone, but it does seem as if Cage has found a new avenue that I know will catch on with a lot of progressive thinking heads.....

Heltah Skeltah & DJ Revolution - The Midnight Madness Remix EP

New Remix EP from one of Duck Down's most popular act's, Heltah Skeltah....Pretty good idea I think, and actually I really would like to see this catch on, that being EP's coming out that only contain a grip of remixes of a single song by different, really talented producer's. Props to Coalmine Records for putting this out and being one of the new, few labels that is dropping dope music while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of creativity within the promotion and release realm......

We have a primed Heltah Skeltah here, paired up with producers M-Phazes, J Clyde, Analogic, Dual Output, Slopfunkdust and Audible Docter for 5 ill remixes of "Midnight Madness"......Coming from someone who knows a thing or two about remixes (peep "The Tape" people!) I gotta say M-Phazes and Analogic pulled off the best performances here....no disrespect to anyone else, all the remixes were incredible....

Singles: Eminem - My Darling & Careful What You Wish For

While we're still 3 days away from the official American release of Eminem's sixth album "Relapse", many of us downloaded it as early as last week and have had a chance to soak in Shady's new (and actually old) process for awhile now. I personally found the album to be a very worthy effort and a triumphant return for Mr. Mathers to his much more intriguing Slim Shady alter ego from the past.....If you remember, the Slim Shady LP featured Eminem bursting onto the scene with over the top cartoonish violence, tons of swearing, overt sexual references and the bulk of the beat duties handled by the good doctor.....

On "Relapse" we have Em re-emerging from a 3 year hiatus and returning to that brutal format that once upon a time garnered him just about every award and musical accolade out there.....Relapse features Marshall going in over nothing but Dre beats again and again creating a chillingly comical LP that aside from "Crack A Bottle" and "We Made You" really had no mis-steps.....For all of you that have heard the LP already and share my contempt for Em diluting his new release with those two commercial attempts at a hit single's here's a solution in the form of two new bonus tracks that leaked today that for some reason Em decided to leave off "Relapse"....

"Careful What You Wish For" is a in depth, first-person look into the trials and turmoil that the Detroit emcee has been embroiled in since the inception of his career...."My Darling" is a much more wandering type of joint, that finds Em touching on a few subjects including being a white rapper, his disdain for the media that allegedly "adores" him and having a pretty psychotic conversation with his negative and devilish subconscious....sorry, I have no info on who produced these, however "Careful What You Wish For" sounds a lot like and Eminem produced joint to men....

Jazz Liberatorz - Fruit Of The Past

Aaigght, aaaght, contain your excitement! I know I vowed not to post up brand new material anymore, but due to the fact that it's only available for purchase on their Myspace page and that the production trio of DJ Damage, Dusty & Madhi AKA The Jazz Liberatorz are from France, where I'm sure they'll do their numbers, I'm bringing you their excellent (and I truly mean excellent) new release "Fruit Of The Past".....

After listening to this joint I don't feel that guilty about puttin it up because I know many people, myself included are gonna go out and order this...even at import prices...

"Fruit Of The Past" once again finds The Lib'z bringing Hip-Hop a bevy of musical gifts in the form of smooth and breezy Jazz piled on top of boom bap and funk drum arrangements. Including a mix of brand new instrumentals, old joints remixed and new material recorded with underground Hip-Hop royalty such as Mos Def, Fat Lip, T.Love, Declaime, Wildchild and Emanon, this is a definite must have for true heads.....I mean the production on here is just amazing and even though I've heard a good bulk of the music on here already, it's always great to hear them in a new mix and coupled with new stuff....really gotta tip my hat to the Jazz Liberatorz, they're quickly becoming the cream of the crop not only of European production teams, but also here in the states, considering the level of talent, especially abroad, that's a lofty compliment, I know, but they truthfully are very worthy of it.....

Single: Cam'ron - Crime Pays (Original Intro For Crime Pays Album)

Here's an unreleased jewel all you Cam stans should enjoy....As we all know Killa's new LP; "Crime Pays", dropped 3 days ago and while all of you are probably knee deep in his latest excursion into Cam world, prepare for even more. For the most part from what I've heard round' the net via my favorite music critic's, "Crime Pays" is actually a pretty decent album all things considered....In any case despite my disdain and skepticism for some of his recent music, I cannot deny Cam still can put a good joint together from time to time. That would be situation here on what was supposed to be the title track and intro to his new album "Crime Pays"....Apparently there was some problems clearing the sample used here and that's a downright shame seeing that it's a pretty ill one, complete with big, resounding horns.....enjoy kids....

Single: J Dilla ft. Havoc & Raekwon - 24Kt Rap & The Jay Stay Paid Sampler

We're only a lil' over 2 weeks away before we're blessed with another posthomus album from none other than J Dilla that I am more than anxiously anticipating....

"Jay Stay Paid" is scheduled to hit retail and online stores on June 2nd and I think that Nature Sounds being it's home will do the late, great beat genius justice. One thing I like a lot is that Mrs. Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancy was named executive producer of the album, hopefully ensuring that she will garner a lot of the monetary gains in which she needs at this point and that Dilla would've wanted his mother to have.

Because he was one of Dilla's musical hero's Pete Rock was the man tapped to put this album together from old ADAT's and beat tapes....Pete came up with the dope idea to format it like a program director/on-air personality would throughout the record....Ill!!

While the bulk of the music is instrumental beats, there was a number of artist's who were privileged enough to get to rhyme on some of the unreleased Dilla gems....Included in that batch of lucky artist's is Raekwon and Havoc who both got together on the grimy "24Kt Rap", a tune worthy of two of the best hardcore names ever to do it outta NYC.

I realize that ya'll are just as amp'd as I am about the release of "Jay Stay Paid" and because of this I decided to include the sampler of the whole album that was put together by Beat Junkie DJ J-Rocc....this is straight heat...ya'll getting to peep what many people are hailing as the most anticipated and important Hip-Hop release in a long time a month early....ya welcome.....R.I.P. Dilla....

DJ Vadim - U Can’t Lurn Imaginashun

DJ Vadim is truly a one of kind type of musician. The DJ, producer, radio presenter, promoter, label head and occasional painter was born in Russia, raised in London and now splits his time residing in both New York City and Port Au-Prince, Haiti....The man gets around, knows the tricks of the trade, spends 170 to 180 days on tour a year and the reason why he's featured on Purehip-hop today is because of his gift for fusing dub, dancehall and Hip-Hop production. Masterfully combining all three genres and even more, Vadim displays a wonderful flair for good music on his latest compilation release "U Can’t Lurn Imaginashun".

Vadim is a true master at creating smooth, experimental riddums on this heady, musical LP.....utilizing underlying tones of Reggae, Electronica and Hip-Hop drum arrangements Vadim relays his production on here wonderfully and diversely....Ranging in sound from soulful ("That Life") to R&B ("Thrill Seeker"), instrumental ("Strictly Rockers 215") and even dance ("Rock Dem Hot"), you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who can get down in so many ways. There are lots of different deliveries of song on here as well....you have some singing, some toastin', some emceeing and Vadim also gets down on the turntablism in spots too.

If your looking for something different, but still wanna be rooted in Hip-Hop, you've found your match....
