Yo, man, I have no words... "You a rapper or a scientist?"
Single: Lupe Fiasco - Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)
Sorry kids, I know that the news on this new single has been bubblin' since yesterday, it's just that uncle D.O. has things to do....
Okay, so the thing about this new single from Lupe, off his upcoming follow-up to "Food & Liquor", is that it uses the same sample (Tom Scott And The California Dreamers' "Today" track [ at the 1:38 mark]) that Pete Rock's magnanimous, legendary, genre-defining classic "T.R.O.Y." did, and Pete wasn't no typa fan of that. The GOAT producer quickly took to twitter to air out his negative feelings on that:
No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made. Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one! It’s so hard for folks to make original music, I possess that, but these dudes are scared of that and this is supposed to be HIP HOP? Man I’m a lupe fan and everything but TROY was my homie man. I think about him and Hev every fucking day!!!! Smh
Who ever Re-created that didn’t do a good job @ all. #nohate. This business can be so lame, sometimes I make beats blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back and still these cats can’t be original to. So untalented and unoriginal. Makes me feel like I’m truly the best that ever did it. Yo hev and t-Roy I love and miss da shit outta y’all. U guys have been violated with no Vaseline. So fucked up this business smmfh!!! And I don’t care who got something to say about it, kiss my.. I’m not flattered @ all. Dat shit is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his fuckin self. Smh That record is dear to me yo fuck deez niggas!!!! I’m still Dat nigga out here believe it or don’t. Ur ignorance not mine, lame duck bullshit. I think lupe is a great artist, I’m that angry with him but it’s a major label idea. I can feel it. And y’all need to stop the childish games, I’m a fan of lupe and he is a great artist and a great person.
Okay, no. 1, and this is clearly the most important thing, Yo, Don't nobody own no samples.. for years Pete Rock railed against artists of yesteryear who had beef with him and other Hip-Hop producers lifting their music off records and re-working it, now he wants to call foul when he's in somewhat the same position? Kinda hypocritical of the Chocolate Boy Wonder. His version is easily better, but he's gotta deal with the fact that the sample ain't his, no sample is exclusive to any producer in this game.
No. 2, why isn't anyone actually talking about the subject matter within Lupe's song? Lupe was kicking some real ass talk to folks about some real ass issues, but somehow that ain't the story, this is.
and lastly, Yo! A lot of us older 90s heads have a terrible reputation with the new kids coming up in rap now. They feel like we as a whole are a bunch of snobs and don't feel like they've paid their dues. I can admit sometimes playing that role is really fun, but I can't deny that it's destructive. We, collectively, should be a lil' happier that these new jacks have discovered that old, magical sample that the great Tom Scott and the California Dreamers laid down so many years ago and are keeping it alive. If anything "Around My Way" is the gateway by which those young minds will find "T.R.O.Y.".

Where my PHH video game heads at? Ya'll out there? LOL, at all? Welp, even though I have zero idea how many of you are gamers frequent the site, I've decided to throw you thee proverbial bone..
Kendrick Lamar has just about the most buzz of any new west coast artist, so it figures that the good folks that manufacture Ghost Recon for Tom Clancy whom I gotta assume is uber rich by now, tapped him to get them a track for the upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier...
Dig in, pretty solid stuff, not what I was expecting at all, but then again I was thinking something in the vein of Kendrick rhyming over a beat that samples Contra or something..
Kendrick Lamar - War Is My Love

I gotta be honest, I don't think this shoe fits Yasin.. give us somethin else..
Honoring today's birthday of Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, Yasiin Bey continues his Top 40 Underdog series with latest track. Aptly titled "Bey," the artist formerly known as Mos Def goes fierce over the instrumental of Lil Tunechi's single "John (If I Die Tonight)" and salutes the legacies of Biggie Smalls and Malcolm X.

Single: The Black Opera - Black Superstar (prod. by yU)
Yo, these cats came so correct on their debut album, many a conscious, revolutionary Hip-Hop fan such as myself simply cannot wait for a follow -up..
Here we get a new morsel from The Black Opera that features the group that seems to covet it's secret nature a great deal expounding on the paradoxes that go along with black and minority celebrity... the beat done by none other than DMV vet and Diamond District member yU.
Another Mello Music Group effort! Best underground label in rap baby!
The Black Superstar has always been a paradox in American Culture. African-Americans, and many racialized ‘others’, have for a long time held this odd allure as naturally cool, while at the same time suffering the effects of a body that is instantly criminalized. This is a dangerous duality that can serve as simultaneous impetus and hindrance. This polarization drives an ill collaboration between yU and the mysterious Black Opera, hosted by Mello Music Group.
Carneperro - Sick Jacken vs. Pizko MC Remix: Tale Of The Mask And The Butcher
If your gonna attempt to remix a project that DJ Muggs put out in it's entirety and you wanna get a reaction from me, make sure the shit is proper... This man Carneperro did precisely that..
Re-doing the entire 15 track "DJ Muggs vs. Sick Jacken feat. Cynic: Legend Of The Mask And The Assassin" album, this man Carne really put his own dope touch on a much-slept on effort from 07'.
Carneperro - Sick Jacken vs. Pizko MC Remix: Tale Of The Mask And The Butcher
Oddisee - Odd Renditions
Do I gotta even hype this? DMV-bred and NYC-dwelling beatmaking monster and efficient emceeing member of the trio Diamond District, Oddisee, has a new 4-track freebie for you guys before he blasts off his official new release...
"Before my new album People Hear What They See drops, I wanted to share some remixes & edits I put together of various tracks. I created four unofficial remixes of songs by K-Os, Bon Iver, Metronomy & one of my favorite artists of all time, Marvin Gaye. After recording vocals to all of them, I felt it was only right to slap a cover on it & release it." Oddisee
Video: ScienZe & King I Divine - Hero

One of Canada's best pays tribute to one of the illest to ever come up outta BK, Adam Yauch, AKA, MCA of the Beastie Boys, who, as I'm sure you know recently passed on due to cancer.
Man, what can I say, it's sobering looking back, but we must look back and celebrate lives like MCA's.. that's what D-Sisive does here.. .

Maaaan, on June 12th we all gon get what we truly been waitin on!
Since June of last year I been tryin to keep track of Dilla's latest posthumous release, "The Rebirth Of Detroit" , handled by none other than Ma Dukes..

Here, Danny Brown rips an authentic Dilla donut to shreds while DJ Dez takes us out with the fader..
Single: DJ Soko, Apollo Brown, Guilty Simpson & Hasaan Mackey - Stand Up
Mello Music group continues it's monthly 7" series and unleashes some of the best talent it has had on it's roster onto one joint together for the 4th installment...
DJ Soko and Apollo Brown, both respectively of The Left connect with Detroit's Guilty Simpson and Rochester emcee extraordinaire and fellow Brown collaborator Hasaan Mackey..
The end result here is "Stand Up", a raucous, slappin' melding of personalities and hardcore stylings.. enjoy!
Cover Art: Large Professor - Professor @ Large
The Extra P is readying his upcoming LP "Professor @ Large" , and as a longtime fan of the man's beats and rhymes, I'm excited..
It's been a little bit (about 4 or 5 years) since we got a true LP of new records from Large Pro and many of his fans have been clamoring for his new ish'... We're all about to get it..
It's set for release on June 26th and will feature names like Mic Geronimo, M.O.P., Busta Rhymes, Cormega, Tragedy Khadafi, and the nbewly minted super group M.A.R.S. (Mega, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano & Saigon).
Showbiz & A.G. - Mugshot Music: Pre-Loaded
Whenever legends like this blast off a whole album just for fun Tony Montana style, it'd behoove you to snatch it up man..
This is actually an LP that I, D O, personally have had in the whip for a couple of days and lemme tell you, Show & A.G. really have set the bar high for themselves.. this effort absolutely is the longtime duo's best work since their hay day's in the mid 90's and as members of the original DITC crew....15 tracks on this... O.C. featured on two and DJ Premier on two....
*As promised, this is just the "pre" album as well, we still are gonna get "Mugshot Music" the album sometime later this year..
Showbiz & A.G. - Mugshot Music: Pre-Loaded
Single: Wais P The Pimp ft. Roc Marciano - Put Jewels On It (prod. by Statik Selektah)

DJ Rhettmatic - Excerpts From The SP1200 Volume 1
To this old Hip-Hop head there will always be certain tools of the trade that are undeniably thee best of all-time.. The E-MU SP1200 sampling drum machine is one of said tools and will forever hold a special place in the hearts of many a beat fiend and head... that unmistakable, 12 bit crunch that it used to interpret so many of the game's illest samples and drums is just, simply unmatched...
DJ Rhettmatic, a legend in the DJing and production world in his own right has un-earthed some of his earliest SP1200 gems for all of us to hear.. below is his rundown of what this free serving is all about..
I remember when i first got my SP back in 1991, when they reissued the SP1200 with the black finish. The original version had grey finish; i bought mine for $2000…..that was a lot of me back in the day. This machine was made popular by producers such as Marley Marl, Dr. Dre, Dj Muggs, Large Professor, Q-Tip, Madlib, & of course Pete Rock….i was inspired to get one because all of my favorite producers during the late 80's & early 90's were using this to make all the classic Hip Hop songs that we all know & loved so well. My first official SP1200 beat on wax was the Key-Kool & Rhettmatic's "E=MC5" song with Ras Kass, LMNO, Meen Green, & Voodoo…..
So now, what you hear right now is some of old stash of SP1200 Beats that were made from 1994-1998. I actually recorded the beats straight from the SP1200, without any additional mixing…..just straight arrangement, & added scratches & sound effects to keep a little things interesting. What you hear is straight, raw, gritty, 12-bit texture, mono SP1200 beats with the ringy tone samples & smacking drum sounds. I hope you enjoy listening to them (& hopefully you're not making fun of them) while walking down memory lane with me. Who knows, if the response is positive, i might put out more beats to listen….& maybeactually make some new ones too!
Video Interview: Alchemist for HipHopSite
Our boy Al is back and is good enough to talk at length with DJ Pizzoh of HipHopSite about what's on the horizon for him and his considerable production talents..
Among the new projects that get discussed are Alchemist's new LP's with Action Bronson and longtime cohort Evidence, as well as his new "Russian Roulette" tape/LP that sounds highly inventive..

Kooley High: The SkyWalker Presented by Sinopsis
If the original version wasn't already dope enough, producer Sinopsis took it upon himself to remix the entire Kooley High "David Thompson" album in truly remarkable fashion..
The new version provides listeners with the same vocals from the album, except this time the doses of soulful sample chops is turned up to 10 and there's a definite, new and quite dope vibe to the overall album's sound.. I like that this trend of reduex'ing an entire LP is starting to take off.. "The SkyWalker" is proof that it can be done properly..
You can get ya stream on for free and own it for a mere $4.50.. what a steal!
