Single: Cormega - Victory Freestyle (Freddie Foxxx Diss)

This is gettin kinda interesting...

Mega Montana finally fires back (guess the letter he wrote just wasn't cuttin it) a quick diss for Bumpy, who coincidentally is fresh off of bustin some nondescript ass in an NYC nightclub...

People keep on hoping this thing gets physical....Not I...I'd rather hear the music and see if Bump can raise his game to Mega's level...which of course is doubtful, but not impossible. Really, it could be a dope old school typa battle man.

This was the proverbial warning shot from Mega, lettin' Bump know that he ain't the one and he's [Bumpy] not equipped to get down. Set to the always stunning "Victory" beat that so many MC's have utilized to catch wreck on their enemies, I think Mega more than made his point...

Your move Freddie...

Single: Nottz - Shine So Bright

New single from longtime go to beatmaker Nottz, that showcases his rappin skillz in full...

If your diggin' this, prepare yourself for the VA bred, D.M.P. Click general's upcoming album "You Need This Music".

Personally I liked everything "Shine So Bright" had to offer except Nottz wearing that southern drawl so much in spots....other than that, yeah, I'm down for a full album worth of stuff like this...

Nottz - Shine So Bright

Video: Dark Moon

Rising funny man Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder, Roll Bounce) teams up with onetime Philly femcee force Eve for a hilarious jab at all of the ridiculously emotional movies coming out these days that somehow have managed to tie in vampires with restless teen angst....*cough* Twilight *cough*

Pretty good stuff from Mr. Jackson, a lot better than most of his quips from Roll Bounce anyway...

As for Ms. Jeffers, it's good to see her out and about, hopefully the whole U.S. Senate Investigation into her and her former West African prince boyfriend allegedly laundering and embezzling "illicitly moving" millions of dollars into the American financial system via shell companies isn't keeping her up too late at night these days....Yikes!

Video: Jaheim ft. Jadakiss - Aint Leaving Without You [Remix]

Hey, R&B cats still can get it right every once in awhile...

Jaheim has long been one of the genre's better crooners, albeit a watered down scene, and some eh, noted time off.

Right here he gets up with everyone's favorite LOX member for a bubbly remix that goes perfectly with you, ya shorty and the ride to whatever location your gonna be enjoying the evening at......Not that D O would know anything about that though...

Video: Kam Moye - Forever Fresh

"Splitting Image" has been in stores now since last year, but Kam Moye AKA the latest southern savior to lyricism has just recently added the visuals to the Marco Polo produced and standout banger from it, "Forever Fresh".

Directed by Charles Barcelona, we get some cool performance shots of Kam, but the real story is the music...incredibly dope stuff.

Single: Termanology, AC, Realm Reality & Baby Pun - Glamour Life 2010 (Big Pun Tribute) (prod. by Jet Audio)

Undoubtedly for the rest of this week we're gonna be flooded with a non-stop stream of projects paying homage to the late great Chris Rios...To jump things off let's get into a track that I used to bump over and over again back in the day, probably more so for Cuban Link's verse that exemplified the type of un-matched lyricism that Terror Squad and Pun used to flex on the reg...

A handful of modern Latino artists get together to update the track, but the real show is the presence of Baby Pun!

Interview: Bill Withers On The Tavis Smiley Show

I'm a PBS watcher people, and ya'll should be too...

One of my fav. programs to catch nightly on the Estación pública de Broadcasting is the Tavis Smiley Show and I'm still kicking myself for having missed the initial airing of this interview he had with the legendary Bill Withers four days ago...

Take some time out to listen to a truly wise man as he discusses his life progressions with Tavis and explains how he found the inner courage to make his music.

"On the way to wonderful you gonna pass through a place called alright"

9th Wonder Presents: 9th Invented the Remix (AGAIN)

Brand new (and totally out of friggin' nowhere) follow up to 9th Wonder's first "9th Invented The Remix" project that is a force....

This one is a lil' more top heavy with R&B tinged cuts, but we still do get quite a few straight up Hip-Hop goodies. Be sure to peep the portion of the tape when 9th goes in with four straight Method Man re-workings. As always 9th captures us with his soulful sound. I know a lot of beat critics give him grief about his production "fundamentals", but I've always enjoyed 9th's stuff man...really it's always been about his ear for incredibly ill soul records more than anything else. Keep that in mind as you enjoy these remixes...

Cookin Soul: Big Dilla Feb. 7th Edition Presented by 2Dopeboyz

Thanks to 2Dopeboyz we get a mixtape that boasts both the vocal talents of Big Punisher who passed away 10 years ago yesterday and J Dilla who was born yesterday (Feb. 7th)

Doing what makes sense at this point, they got together with spanish production team Cookin Soul and had them combine the Big Pun's acapella verses with J Dilla's seemingly endless load of beats...the results were highly entertaining (surprisingly?) and left me wishing these two legends would've gotten a chance to reallly collab while they still were alive...

Video: Halftime @ MLK Courts w/ Bobbito Garcia

New vid/interview from NYM/Gasface with legendary Latino DJ, writer, personality, Announcer, pro ball player and former label owner Bobbito Garcia...

Meeting up in Foster Projects/MLK towers in Harlem, the crew talks to Bobbito about his old show on ESPN 2 It's The Shoes, the lore behind street ball legend Joe Hammond and the pride with which someone like himself with an actual profile shows up to shoot around in the projects.

Dope to see one of my hero's still out there in basketball shorts, a local b-ball tourney shirt and a brand new pair of somethin's I'd love to have on his feet just doin' what he loves...

R.I.P. Big Pun

Ten years ago tomorrow, the greatest Latino MC and one of the of all time greatest MC's period, met with his earthly demise at the tender young age of 28...

I remember the news breaking vividly that day. He passed on due to health complications concerning his weight; something that had nagged him for the better part of his adult life. It's almost as if that day when Pun's heart failed, a piece of the culture was suddenly ripped away prematurely.

We still miss Chris Rios and while Hip-Hop continues to reel unrelentingly from losing him far to quickly, we honor his memory and the massive amounts of people he touched through his music is our reminder of his prolific rise.

*bumps "Still Not A Player" at max. volume*

Single: Raashan Ahmad - Golden State

Maaaan, when stuff like this is goin' down you know that Super Bowl weekend might just be here! LOL, Who don't love seeing a pro athlete's poor decision baby moms actin' a complete idiot onstage?

Getting back to the music though, just wanted all of ya to know the stream of content here on PHH might dip just a bit over the weekend as I take in as many wings, scrimps and beers as much of the local festivities as I can...Go Saints!

Meantime, to jump off the weekend we got a new joint from Crown City Rocker and Oakland by way of New Jersey MC, Raashan Ahmad. Apparently today Ahmad was chillin', vibing out to some N.W.A. and was inspired to make this tune about the state everyone wanna be in; C A all day baby.

I don't think he left a spot, name, group of people, street or description out...a dope and comprehensive ode to The "Golden State" indeed.

Joell Ortiz & Noel Present Defying The Predictable Mixtape

Long awaited (I guess) new tape from Joell (Yaowa!!) Ortiz and his singin sidekick of late, Novel...

I think Joell probably could've powered a mixtape all by himself and just featured Novel once or twice and the overall package would've been better, but for the most part he's interesting enough on here. BTW hats off to Novel for handling the bulk of the production...

Best track is the "Hip Hop Remix" that features Joell, Sai-giddy and Jada gettin their cypher on.

The "Free Agent" comin soon...

Single: Kooley High ft. Median - Solitude (prod. by Foolery)

I like these kids...always have, ever since they put out that jazzy goodness we all remember as the "Kooley Is High" mixtape I've been waitin for more...

Definitely headed in the right direction, the 6 former N.C. State Wolfpack students captivate with intelligent rhymes coupled with soulful production and just might be my favorite performers under the age of 25...For "Solitude"; one of two new leaks off their upcoming project "Eastern Standard Time" they get up with Median of Justus League fame...What ensues is righteous and Hip-Hop needs more of it...

Video: Raekwon Speaking On Pun, From Big Pun: The Lost Files

Gather round' as The Chef recalls his amazement with the late Christopher Lee Rios' lyrical abilities and for some reason his [Puns] taking to soul music, despite being "Puerto Rican"?...really? Sometimes Rae comes off denser than a piece of granite, but all is forgiven...In case anyone else wants to know, yeah Latinos dig Soul music...Funk too...hey guess what, we also like Rock...SMH....

This footage comes to us from Vlad Yudin, the man who did the first Pun DVD titled "The Legacy", and who is now releasing "The Lost Files" on the 7th which will also be the 10 year anniversary of Pun's passing...

Single: Cyne - Plain English

Forget the fact that this single culminates with one of Cyne's (that's pronounced "sign's") members re-interpreting Don McLean's refrain from "Bye Bye", just take in that the overall production and vibe is miles ahead of any other joint your gonna play this week tonight.

Seriously, these guys rarely disappoint...

The Gainsville, FLA foursome consisting of emcees Akin and Cise Star, and producers Enoch and Speck are gearing up to drop their 7th LP...I suggest you scramble to catch up on their robust catalog b4 that happens.

"In Plain English", the underground will neva die...pump that at your friggin' levy...

Review: Mike Swoop – New Love

Providing listeners with a wide pallet of laid back, dreamy and funked out goodies longtime DJ, producer, musician and Minnesota native Mike Swoop gives the world his debut album, the highly agreeable “New Love“.

Having honed his skills as a DJ for Twin Cities’ rhyme collective Diametrix, Swoop is rooted in Hip-Hop, but for his own album he definitely straddles genre lines in order to create the most heavenly loungin’ music I’ve heard in quite awhile. Containing elements from Dancehall, Dub-Step, Afro-Beat, Electronic and even Blues, Swoop cultivates magnetic arrangements that effortlessly get ya head groovin’. The basslines are thick and rolling, the instrumentation is crisp and sultry and every track has it’s own identity.

Video: Aloe Blacc - A Change Is Gonna Come

Don't know How I missed this....

A month ago, the supremely talented Cali vocalist known as Aloe Blacc was in Studio 301 in Sydney with Dizz1 to record...during some down time he got his Sam Cooke On.
