Joell Ortiz- The Brick Bodega Chronicles

Joell Ortiz y'all!! Yes I have uploaded the first Lp/Mixtape from Aftermath's next at bat....let's hope he doesen't end up like past Aftermath burnouts Joe Beast and Brooklyn (The singer).....I really doubt that's the case however, and the proof is in the pudding....just listen to how carefully this man picks his beats and crafts his verses on this shit....I don't see nuthin in Joell's future except either mainstream acceptance or underground celebration....he's a worthwhile artist and I expect the man to lead the wave of new Latino emcees breaking thru to Hip-Hop audiences worldwide.

Alchemist- The Cutting Room Floor

Just one of my favorite fuckin mixtapes ever man.....shit isn't even a mixtape to me, it was an introduction to how fuckin ill Alchemist was...and this was b4 in my eyes Alc got lazy (yeah I'm referring to them last two mixtapes) I mean he used to just embody that gritty ass sound that Rza and DJ Muggs got down pat ya know, and this tape is from a time when he was giving his beats to ill muthafuckas like P Dap, Freeway, CNN, Kool G Rap, Dialated Peoples and Nashawn, not guys like Kokane, Tony Yayo and 40 Glocc....anyway, it's an oldie but a goodie, so grab it, I guarantee it'll be the most solid shit you've heard on a mixtape in a minute....

See when shit like this drops, as a hip-hop junkie and a follower and supporter of both these camps, you just can't contain your expectations....even though I was real amp'd for this tape, I didn't put too much stock into it bein dope tho, just for the simple fact I hadn't checked out anything from DJ Batte b4 and most of the time when your dealing with mixtapes it's a disappointment, the only reason that I held out hope for this tape is because Boot Camp tapes and Little Brother/Justus League tapes is hott 99 % of the time.....This tape proved to be a great listen and it has mad replay value too, and while i wished there woulda been a few more cross camp collabo's this tape is still a can't miss for any Boot Camp or Justus League enthusiast.

Joe Budden- Mood Music 2

Talented, brash, a gifted writer, unafraid to show what's really on his mind, Joe Budden is everything an up and coming artist in this game needs to be, cats shoulden't be sleeping on this guy, yet he is always the last name dudes think of these days when the subject of a nice rapper in the modern era of hip-hop come up....I don't know, I've read interviews that said he was broke, that he was quittin the business etc., etc., but never the less here comes Budden with a new joint every other month that totally shits on what 80 % of the game is talkin bout.....this mixtape was, in my opinion (and I know a fucking thing or two about mixtapes) a classic and the best work Budden has ever put out, that includes that piece of shit, major label, radio friendly debut album on Def Jam...

Pete Rock- Underground Classics

Certainly there's a lot of Producers out there that are doin their thing, makin money, crafting what they believe is Hip-Hop, but real heads know that there's one man who knows few peers when it comes to the realm of production...Pete Rock's been at it for a minute, pumping out some of Hip-Hop's most under appreciated and trend setting albums. While he's recently been on a small hiatus, The Chocolate Boy Wonder didn't forget his loyal followers and recently dropped some unreleased and classic joints from his vaults....just to keep us pacified until the summer.....yeah, that's right, new Pete Rock Lp this summer bitches....

AZ- A.W.O.L. Cookin Soul Remix

Man, There hasn't been many times that me, personally, as both an amatuer producer and a huge fan of remix projects, that a producer has "wow'd" me. I mean Pete Rock and DJ Premier were probably the bar I set as far as who does the shit the best....Then along came Cookin Soul....The Hip-Hop production duo from Spain...yeah, I said it...Spain!! At first I was a skeptic, then the music came on...the amount of ill soul samples that were coming out of my stereo chopped to perfection was crazy...these cats were deep, and they had some serious beats....the way that they transformed AZ's A.W.O.L. album is simply retarded.....

Few mixtapes will ever start off as well as this one, in terms of song rarity and how ill the songs was. The first five joints are just to me, how a DJ is supposed to get things started. 1)Stuck In This Game Forever by Jay-Z. At the time the song was new to me, and that means Green Lantern was one of the first to break it, Green always had dope exclusives and this was one.

Any real list of the greatest mixtapes of all time would be incomplete without a selection from perhaps the first revolutionary DJ in the game; DJ Clue. Clue has been crafting some of the most memorable tapes in hip-hop history for some time, and many would most likely be able to think of a few of Clue’s tapes off the top of their head that would be worthy of this list. The reality is that Clue, in my opinion was always a superior DJ when it came to having the hottest remixes and exclusives before anyone else, and more often than not, that was a winning formula for the Queens native. I found it to be a really disturbing trend however, that as time went on, Clue began to become more interested in his new cushy job at MTV and socially crooning all over the big apple, rather than pushing his mixtapes to a new level. Now I’m not saying the man doesn’t deserve what he has or that he hasn’t worked harder than most, all I’m saying is that his old stuff is terribly missed. Ah yes, if only the children knew what it was to possess a Clue tape that was circa 1994 thru 1998. As a matter of fact in the mid 90’s there are two Clue tapes that stand out acutely above the rest. One of these tapes was his 1995 banger “Scarecrow’s Birthday” and the other was the mixtape that began a new era. A mixtape that combined the street with Clue’s master direction and selection. The name of the tape was The Cluemanatti project, or as it became known on the streets throughout the nation and New York: Cluemanatti.

Can't Wait - Redman

Check The Method - Lord Finesse

Big Poppa (Rmx) - Biggie

I Wanna Be Down (Rmx) - Brandy / Lyte / Yo Yo / Queen Latifah

I Wanna Be Down (Wop Rmx) - Doo Wop / Fat Joe / Akinyele / Prettyboy Floyd / Lord Tariq

This tape right here is absolute classic, vintage, Doo Wop. Known as being one half of the Diaz Brothers and blazing trails as one of New York’s premier DJ’s when it comes to assembling quality mixtapes, Doo Wop would really wow the underground and mainstream hip-hop audiences alike with his amazing foresight on this project . This tape really introduced to me a new way of looking at mixtapes and how dudes were putting them together. For this endeavor, and many more to come Doo Wop had assembled an all- star east coast lineup, and had labeled the first side “New York’s In The House” which was a 21 minute intro showcasing a rapper repping his borough or project.

Tony Touch presents The Five Deadly Venoms Of Brooklyn

You knew this one was coming. The definition of Classic wildly emanates from this landmark tape. As if the lineup of contributing legendary Brooklyn DJ’s wasn’t already first-rate enough, the premise behind this masterpiece is also consummately timeless . The cover and pullout artwork parodies the 1978 Kung Fu cult classic “The Five Deadly Venoms”, and so fittingly each DJ takes on their own unique warrior style alter ego.
