Grand Agent - Hustle Til' It Hurt Album (Mixed by DJ Modesty)

Whoo! Brand new album from none other than Grand Agent ya'll! Check in!

GA as many of you know is the Philly cat that hit the Hip-Hop underground with the classic debut "By Design" back in 01'...

GA spent a couple of years out in Europe makin his dollars and has subsequently released 4 LP's since "By Design" and continues to be the total embodiment of dope Indie underground rap...

Today we got a brand new album outta nowhere from GA titled "Hustle Til' It Hurt" and I can honestly say it's dope to hear from GA again...Hip-hop needs more of this man's music. This release has a wide array of sounds on it, very diverse listen...as good as his prior stuff? Well, that's another story...All the same, the tracks I found to be the complete standouts were "On My Jock", "Smooth Jazz" and "Addicted".

Single: Slaine ft. Vinnie Paz & Reef The Lost Cauze - Landscapes

Brand new Banger from one of Beantown's best new thesbians artist's, in Slaine...

Mr. Carroll is prepping to release "A World With No Skies 2.0" on August 16th, which is basically a re-release of his "A World With No Skies" album that was pushed back in October of 2010  (and leaked horrendously) due to some sample clearance issues that Suburban Noize records thought needed to be ironed out and re-worked.

Here's one track that you'll find on both versions that is absolutely one of Slaine's best collab joints ever as he teams with Reef The Lost Cauze and Vinnie Paz to threaten listeners and impale a hell of a beat from Hirolla.

Hip-Hop Battlefield & Cullpa P.F.E. Present Strictly Weapons: Another Round Of Remix Abuse By Drasar Monumental

Been waitin on this one since the last one....

For all you new jacks this'll be a treat..Drasar Monumental is truly one of the more multi-talented entities out there in the blogoshere...In addition to running the flat out dope HipHopBattlefield blog, Dras is also one of the illest producers you ain't heard of out west...

A seasoned crate digger and remix maker, Drasar has a brand new mix for all of us to enjoy in "Strictly Weapons" and man, I gotta say despite the fact that I speak to this man on occasion and am friendly wit duke, he's really put together an impressive mix. Not only are all the beats properly nostalgic and flooded with warmth, but the actual mixing is interesting and creative as shit...few cats today is really flexing on the effects this nicely man...Drasar's talent for throwing together soundscapes is truly impressive.

Mix is one single MP3 file, just the way us old tape heads like it....dive into this joint, Drasar re-works some of ya fav. standards from names like Royal Flush, M.O.P., Onyx, Lord Finesse, Fat Joe, Nas and others...10 tracks, and the whole mix checks in at just under 43 minutes long...this is pure flava ppl...

Hip-Hop Battlefield & Culpa P.F.E. Present Strictly Weapons: Another Round Of Remix Abuse By Drasar Monumental

News: Gil Scott-Heron Passes Away

"Because I always feel like running
Not away, because there is no such place
Because if there was, I would have found it by now
Because it's easier to run,
Easier than staying and finding out you're the only one who didn't run
Because running will be the way your life and mine will be described,
As in "the long run"
Or as in having "given someone a run for his money"
Or as in "running out of time"
Because running makes me look like everyone else, though I hope there will ever be cause for that
Because I will be running in the other direction, not running for cover
Because if I knew where cover was, I would stay there and never have to run for it
Not running for my life, because I have to be running for something of more value to be running and not in fear
Because the thing I fear cannot be escaped, eluded, avoided, hidden from, protected from, gotten away from,
Not without showing the fear as I see it now
Because closer, clearer, no sir, nearer
Because of you and because of that nice
That you quietly, quickly be causing
And because you're going to see me run soon and because you're going to know why I'm running then
You'll know then
Because I'm not going to tell you now"

-Gil Scott-Heron

Today we lost an icon at 4 PM, as he lay in a New York City hospital, at the age of 62.....

Gil was a complicated man, who triumphed, struggled and was in-between many times throughout his life. Personally, I believe he's one of the most important poets of the Hip-Hop generation's lifetime...His work is timeless...rest in peace Gil.

Interview: 9th Wonder Tells All: The Stories Behind His Classic Records

Really excellent new digital article/interactive piece from Complex mag that finds us being led on a wonderful tour of 9th Wonder's 30 most classic records...Included with the actual song embedded for you to hear (god, I love the internet) is some choice commentary from 9th himself about each record and trust, he holds nuthin' back....

Personally I have far too many fav. 9th joints to narrow em' down to even 30, but please believe I really liked this jaunt...great stuff...hats off to Complex man...

Holy shit...Random Axe snippets people!

If your wondering how this surely excellent release is going to sound than wonder no longer....The good people over at Amazon have now put snippets of all 15 joints on this album...I took a listen earlier and all I can say is wow...100% solid man...

Don't get too excited however, some of the album's most tantalizing joints (namely the cut w/ Roc Marcy) aren't available to preview...so there's still a bit of suspense...

Single: The Rza - Only The Rugged Survive

WTF, I guess I missed the memo that said there was going to be a new Wu album coming out....*sighs*

The only reason I'm a lil' frustrated with the lack of promo for the new album, which is titled "Legendary Weapons" and drops at the end of next month on E1 Music, is because yo, this single is killer!

I mean, this is probably the nicest Rza track I've heard in a long, long time...Wu enthusiasts I think will agree with me when I say the production is a lot more conducive of a "classic" Wu sound as well...

There are a good amount of details that did come with this single however and they are as follows, pour through this if you'd like:

The Wu-Tang Clan is one of rap music’s longest running and most influential groups. Over the last two years the group has made a remarkable return to form. Beginning with E1′s 2009 release “Wu-Tang: Chamber Music” and continuing with projects such as “Wu-Massacre”, Ghostface Killah’s “Apollo Kids”, Raekwon’s “Only Built For Cuban Linx 2″ and “Wu-Tang vs Shoalin” they have released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects.
Wu-Tang: Legendary Weapons will continue in that streak. This album includes a heavy dose of Ghostface Killah (he is featured on 8 of the albums 11 songs) alongside The RZA and all of the other core Wu- Tang group members. Dark, raw tracks produced by The RZA together with members of the Brooklyn based band The Revelations provide a solid foundation for the crew’s tales of violent New York street life and debauchery.

Hmmmm....so 11 tracks and most of them feature Ghost and the production is being handled mainly by Rza and this new production squad called the Revelations....hey...at least it's somethin' right?

Video: Armageddon - Sending My Love

Former T Squader Armagddon sends his well wishes and thank you's to a longtime incarcerated uncle as well as his fans who've stuck by his side through a turbulent career, which he now promises will be different in this new vid "Sending My Love"...The video gives a pretty in-depth look at the life and times he's had in Hip-Hop thus far.

I've been a fan of Geddy's since 98' and I can wholeheartedly tell you the talent has always been there...maybe he's a victim of mis-management in part, but a lot of what has held him back has been a lack of production...and I don't mean dope beats...

I hope Geddy is ready to turn that corner and really start giving us consistently dope music like this here...and while he's at it he needs to holla at Prospect and tell him to do the same.

Armageddon's "The Journal Vol. 1" The Rebirth EP" coming soon...

Video: Lyrics Born ft. Sam Sparro - Coulda Woulda Shoulda

Lyrics Born and Sam Sparro dole out some good old fashioned smooth funk on "Coulda Woulda Shoulda", flexing some serious versatility and providing that age old tale of caution for many a gold diggin' and impatient woman out there...

Directed by Yoram Benz, this actual video is stunning and really brings back that 70's aesthetic in a way that I haven't seen in a minute...a great, highly memorable vid...

The Underdogz - Wuttup Doe?

The Underdogz (Warren Britt & Otis Clapp) will supply you with some of that hard hitting, high energy, dancin' bassline, NY gully shit that ya love...Always good to see a new generation of emcees outta the big apple come correct...

Guest appearances on "Wuttup Doe?" include Craig G and Silent Knight...

Single: Thoth ft. Planet Asia & Mistah F.A.B. - TurnHeads (prod. by !llmind)

Newcomer Thoth [pronounced th-awth]  has a brand new single he wants us to hear...and he came correct...

Of course the assist from Bay area royalty Mistah F.A.B. and Fresno, CA repper Planet Asia always helps as well, but honestly, I think the newbie did okay in this instance....Over a subdued, yet knockin' production from !llmind all three emcees get loose and truly "Turn Heads"...A lot better a single than the first one he let go in the regrettably titled "On My Terminator Shit"

Thoth's upcoming mixtape with Statik Selektah is set to drop here shortly, keep ya glims peeled...it's got features from Raekwon, Danny Brown, Guilty Simpson and Termanology amongst others...

I was debating whether or not to put this joint up or not due to the fact that I am so not a fan of snippets of just single tracks...got damnit, if you gon' put the shit out, just put it out, fuck the fake ass suspense...In any case, Nas teaming up with Common is a big enough deal for me to momentarily set aside my pet peeves and put this joint up on the page for ya'll....

The actual sound we gettin on "Ghetto Dreams" is a pretty fuckin crazy one man...Some ole' prodding, hardcore type shit with Com taking it back to when he needed to Barrow a dollar...it's a horribly short clip, but whaddya gon do? That's right kiddo's, no Nas on this clip...

Single: Awthentik - Purified Madness

Peep this single from Silverspring, Maryland artist Awthentik....

Ya'll know I rarely get a chance to scan the Internets for new talent these days, most of the time my inbox is a huge list of good shit I won't get to peep out...every now and again however I stumble upon a new name who's really, truly makin some dope music and upholding the tradition of true school Hip-Hop culture.

Today it's Awthentik with his track "Purified madness"...don't let the title fool you, the joint is actually a more subdued and introspective romp, that contains searing lines like "They buried my momma right in that dirt, and it hit me in my heart where it hurt, this life is a curse"...

I commend this brother on his work...and do believe I'll be checking for his 2-track album "Consequences2beingyourself" that dropped this past November...

Really been waitin on this record for a minute now...

The Chocolate Boy Wonder, Tek and Steele are getting ready to unleash their first collaborative album on the Hip-Hop world, titled "Monumental" and thus far they've kept most of it under wraps..."That's Hard" is only the 2nd sampling of it that we've gotten, but sometimes less is more, seeing as how this joint is huge...

Sean Price and Styles P are called upon to help enhance this notably bangin' joint and the results are a hardcore lover's delight...PR's minimal, yet adequately thumpin' beat cascades underneath the no nonsense wordplay contained...I'm excited man...

Single: Eternia - Remix Of Elzhi's One Love (Nas Tribute)

Even though I have my many feeling about paying "tribute" to artists that are still actively recording (outside of Rakim or KRS-One) I simply cannot deny the dopeness of this remix, carried out in Nassir's name, from one of Canada's best emcee's Eternia.

Eternia is fresh off releasing the undeniably dope "At Last" collab album w/ MoSS, and now we're getting a lil' bit of new music from her as she adds her vocals to Elzhi's re-working of Nas' "One Love" record that he put out recently on his "ELmatic" mixtape.

As usual, Eternia puts her usual introspective and highly adept stamp on this one...tears that beat switch to shreds...

Blu - Jesus LP

Blu knows how to be a true artist man...fuck the limelight, fuck the hob nobbing and rubbing elbows, the smoke sessions...okay, maybe not he smoke sessions, but eff all the extra shit and just get the music out to the fans however possible and on a consistent basis.

Here, Blu again sticks to his truly indie formula and drops, seemingly out of nowhere a brand new LP titled "Jesus"....

I love this Hip-Hop shit man...and I love artists like Blu who just throw the industry bullshit to the side and really only seem to care about expressing themselves the way in which they'd like to..

You can hear the new LP in it's entirety on Blu's Bandcamp (or down below) as well as cop it for the ultra cheap price of $10 bones...which it's definitely worth...I've heard all the complaints about the mic quality on the tracks...I mean, yeah, there's that, but I think it adds like, character to this project and makes it standout from other stuff...plus I know how expensive it is to get shit mastered...lol...either way, peep it out down below.

Linking with Joell Ortiz, Lil' Fame and Bumpy Knuckles, JS provides the perfect hardcore, boom bap canvas for these lyrically proficient New Yawka's to man handle....enjoy this...it's what real rap sounds like...

JS's new album "No One Cares" out June 21st....
