Reflective, poignant, relatable.... That's how I feel about The Illz's new cut "Constant Gardener", that takes a familiar sample and gives it meaning yet again..
The Illz AKA Delgis Mustafa is prepping his debut, "The Darkest Hour" for a November release... we'll be waiting.

Really sad news broke today about one of Hip-Hop's really, truly gifted businessmen and visionaries, who played a huge role in so much of all of our fav. music coming out...
Per The New york Daily News:
Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after apparently shooting himself in the head in his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News.
Lighty, 44 — a longtime manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — was found dead inside his South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., police sources said.
It appeared he died from a bullet to his head, sources said. A gun was recovered next to his body.
Law enforcement sources said Lighty — who divorced his wife, Veronica, last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

So few artists today really are able to focus on the most pressing issues that face their communities and hence, they do not.. It takes a good amount of knowledge and experience, and then, oh yeah, ya gotta have the heart as well...
Enter in Five Steez, a promising new talent from the sun drenched island of Jamaica has all aforementioned traits to make a huge splash with listeners. Over deftly crafted and hand picked boom bap musical arrangements, Five reels you into his world and keeps you there, while spouting a heavy dose of revolutionary-themed narratives. "War For Peace", has the traits of a definite landmark LP from the tiny Caribbean island..
If you dig what you hear, do more than stream it, go cop it, here..
I love new super groups man.. esp., when they're comprised of my fav. underground heads... Knowing this, you had to of assumed that I'd be featuring the new single from The Holy Order, the new four man collective made up of YC The Cynic, ScienZe, Sene and standout BBAS emcee, Soul Khan.
Talk about a group that instantly has clout with me... I mean, I been a fan of Sene's since he started making music, YC is always on my Radar, I played Scienze's "Divine Scienze" collab record and anytime Soul Khan is on the mic, I know.. literally.
A nice collection of New Yawkers indeed man.. all over an Audible Doctor cut that really draws out the best in all of them.. Can't wait to hear what's next.

2nd single off of longtime conscious, alt, west coast, lyrical group Zion I's upcoming new LP, "Shadoww Boxing" , that is due out here shortly..
Along for the bubbly, laid back ride is some of the Living Legends crew's best, Grouch & Eligh... All together, this is just great, great music.. fans of both collectives will dig it...
"we don't stop, no, we don't"
Just a really good time for tapes and new music man... really!
To prove just that we get hit on the head with a selection of highly raw cuts from Stones Throw's Podcast no. 75 - "Axel F.", that finds M.E.D. teaming with J. Rocc for some seriously funky, neck snappin' Cali shit..
Full, unmixed versions flying around man... be sure to guard ya grill!
M.E.D. & J. Rocc - Axel F. (Unmixed)
Any new Jazzy Jeff is welcomed... I say that today and everyday man...
Here the longtime turntablism legend gets down on the one's and two's and churns out some quality work in the form of an hour long mix...More info below:
Presented by LRG and Complex Magazine, Life Colors from legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff is a sonic representation that thinking differently and aiming to change the status quo is something that never goes out of style. Harnessed over 40 tracks that spans both the old and new – including tracks from the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Santigold, Slum Village, J Cole, the Pharcyde and many more – the iconic DJ serves as a willing tour guide to bridge the gap between black and white thinking and a colorful renaissance.
Fourth incredible instrumental from Falside off his new "Strictly Streaming" series...
Comes complete with complex filtered arrangements, beat switches, scratche sentences and all the other great shit we know the extremely gifted Providence, RI beatmaker for bringing out..
Lessondary members Jermiside and Brickbeats are readying their new collaboration album, "Supercharged" and this my needy lil' buggers is the second single off of said album...
Soul pours out of Brick's production and Jerm does what Jerm does best and bully's the track with ample precision. "Time 2 Roll" is the business... enjoy...
Toki Wright of Rhymesayers fame unleashes another new loosie for his fiends to devour, this time, Toki goes in over the timeless hip-hop instrumental that any real head worth his salt should know by heart..
Quick and to the point, this joint hits the spot quite effectively...
I been screamin bout these cats for years.. all the German duo JR & PH7 do is put out that sample based, boom bap Hip-hop with the best underground American acts out there... simple as that...
Two Great LP's and one equally nice EP later, the production team is yet again readying a new LP that I know will have me handing over my loot....
Before they give us their third full length this coming Fall, they've gotten together with DJ Booth to drop "So Far, So Good", a brand new, 60 minute tape comprised of unreleased remixes, outside production work and B-sides.
JR & PH7 - So Far, So Good Mixed by DJ Huckspin Hosted by Chuuwee

Kenny Dope, the man most of you youngins know as the cat that brought out Rasheed Chappell, but prolly should know far more about in terms of his prowess as a DJ...
Here, Kenny lets go of yet another great mix, that exudes Hip-Hop flava and that I know heads around here will appreciate..
Saturday, August 25, 2012
Aye, do I need to give a reason for putting up an instrumental tape like this?
You hang around PHH long enough and eventually you will realize that I gives up all the love for producers who still raid those crates and craft their beats in the good old fashioned way of Hop-Hop lore.. .
The VA-bred and Memphis-based producer and DJ known as Charlie White, formerly of teh group FreeSol, gives us 14 instro's here, totaling a quick, yet oh so dope 23 minutes of music on his debut beat tape... enjoy..
Charlie White - The Last Crate
I realize other blogs had this up days ago, but yeah, It's DOOM, so even though I'm late, It's going the eff up mang..
DOOM and Janeiro Jarel's "Key To The Kuffs" is already out and thanks to a bevy of cuts like this one that feature DOOM in that undeniable pocket, it's doing well from what I hear..
This video is pretty inventive.. hats off to that man Ninian Doff for the split screen wizardry that he flexed...
Young Einstein of Ugly Duckling fame is one of the more slept-on DJing talents out there man.. He's always been really nice at a whole lot, and yet, folks always seem to overlook this man when it comes time to dole out the props.. I say no more..
Here, the superlatively talented Einstein takes us on a relentless, 60 minute ride full of soul, funk, Jazz and of course, his turntablism chops..
One third of DMV group Diamond District and just about one of my fav. new solo artists, yU, has a new single for us to dive into and as always things are proper..
This man can tell it far better than me, so look below for the details on this bubbly, inspiring new cut featuring the vocals of songstress DaNedra Rowell ...
Enlisting Danedra Rowell on vocals, yU eschews the new age boom-bap that got him noticed for something closer to all of our heartstrings. Featuring no rapped bars, “Dreams” is a bittersweet ballad that is less literal than emotive. It captures that late-night, pensive feeling us music heads are very familiar with. yU is able to craft a sound that is universal and hyper-local, breaking new ground for himself musically. The drums sound like they could be on any Diamond District-related project but the melody and chords don’t sound too far from something that could find its way onto radio.
Man, how long has it been since I heard Meth truly go to work on some Shaolin-esque' production? How much longer still since he teamed with his longtime protege/collab man, StreetLife?
..And as if that wasn't reason enough for us to peep this new joint, that stems from Rza's upcoming "The Man With the Iron Fists" movie soundtrack, Freddie Gibbs is along for the ride...

Anytime Lotus gets up with anyone to do work it's usually, very aurally pleasing... this instance is no different friends...
This is a piece of Flylo's upcoming new album "Until The Quiet Comes", that will be an awesome jaunt into soundscapes I'm sure...
New video from La Coka Nostra off their latest (and banging) release "Masters Of The Dark Arts"...
Just that good ol' start a fight, commit massive crime type visuals and music here... Enjoy..
Directed by Tom Vujcic...
BK's best new hope, Skyzoo is readying his sophomore release "A Dream Deferred" on October 2nd via Faculty/Duck Down records... here's our first look at the 14 track offering's artwork...
An original piece done by Fabian Ciraolo, this cover is definitely nice, def. memorable.. can't wait to hear the music contained, which I've no doubt is equally dope..

Ohhh it does my heart well to see the all (well, most) of the State Prop Gang back together..
Beans has a looming prison sentence, but that hasn't stopped him from gettin up with his boys , Young Chris, Omilio Sparks, Freeway and Peedi for this great new joint, complete with visuals of everyone cuttin up around a grip of heavily tatted strippers.. lol
Almost feels like 2003 again man...
Beans' "This Time" drops on the 28th..
NYC-based and Jersey-bred producer and emcee Mazzi and his collective crew S.O.U.L. Purpose drop heavy on us with "Digital Diggin", a brand new, 7 track EP that finds them goin to work over some wildly imaginative beats and grooves..
Mazzi's been at it since the 90's, but many still haven't had the pleasure of hearing what he can do... do yaself the solid and peep this heat!

Official video for LikNuts' (The Beatnuts & The Liks) "Grumpy Crocodile", a record that's been out for awhile now as the initial single for what I'm sure will be one of the hottest releases of this year!
Hit the gym w/ JuJu, Les, Tash, J-Ro and E-Swift for this hardcore romp, and get ready for that full length!!
Directed by James Wade...
What do all you youngins that's just now discovering canvas sneakers know bout Pro Keds?
Sit down and take in some knowledge from one of the rap game's illest sneaker heads, who also is one of it's low key illest emcees, Cormega, as he reveals his new, ultra rare sneaker with Pro Keds...
The dopest collabo project that you have yet to hear about is getting into gear now...
Awhile ago Gibson Glover AKA El Gant and Tek of Smif-N-Wessun let it be known that they were teaming up for a new release and today we get more of said release with "Hammer Dance", a freestyle over the Slaughterhouse record that they take to pieces...
Rhymesayers force to be reckoned with, AKA Brother Ali lets go of the title track for his next LP, "Mourning In America", which is accompanied by production from none other than Seattle beatsmith of the decade, Jake One...
The styles meld perfectly here... Ali laces a dystopic visual of modern day good ol' U.S. of A. over Jake's monstrous and pulsating key work...
Mourning comes on September 18th..
Although this project is executively produced by Don Cannon and No I.D., rest assured you need nothing other than Mikkey Halstead to get into it...
The relatively new Chi-Town emcee's brand of hardcore melded with thought provoking shit is just right..
Guest spots from names like Pusha T, BJ The Chicago Kid and Cocaine 80's..
Mikkey Halstead - Castro (mixtape)

This kid Action Bronson is everywhere is he not? And everywhere he be he rips it the fuck on down... A proper new prospect I'd say.. and what's this I hear about him signing to Warner Bros/Vice through Left Brain of Odd Future? That's a good look mang... (but at this time not 100% verifiable, so don't take this blog's word for it.)
Welp, it would seem he's continuing on his rampage and onslaught today as I received word about this new single that features Bronsalino wrecking a track from UK producer Metabeats... "Hookers", as it's titled..
Enjoy... and be on the lookout for Metabeats' new album "Caviar Crackle"
I had no idea that Money B (of Digital Underground fame) was rappin again mang! Let alone did I know that he's formed a new group with Milwaukee emcee Scott Knoxx, called M.A.S.K. and that they have a new single produced by none other than Premo and featuring Rhymefest... and yeah, it's nice!
I'm excited about this man... no question... here's to hopefully getting another dope single or perhaps the album!
A former member of Flipmode, Masta Ace and Boston's best, Ed.OG click off on this heat rock produced by newcomer Felony Muzik...
I'll be honest, it's not exactly what I envisioned hearing, but it's still good... damn good.. Trust me youngins, any new Ace is good Ace and Rampage is seriously making a good push for his new EP, "R.E.A.L.: Road To Everyone Ain't Loyal"...
This joint is unreleased... but be sure to be mindful of the upcoming Rampage LP, "Everyone Ain't Loyal" though, so get ready for that..
Soothing new stuff from Kweli and a surprising (but it shouldn't be) guest spot from his Boro-mate, Maino...
This soulful excursion is produced by none other than 9th Wonder and stems from Kweli's upcoming new tape with DJ Z-Trip, "Attack The Block"...
As always, 9th gets ya head noddin', Kweli gets it thinkin' and Maino gets it plottin'...
Two of the most respected OG's you'll ever get the chance to witness do they thing together return again in their group mode as EvitaN, as they drop this uber nice new visual accompaniment to their uber dope "Keep Keepin On" track..
As per usual the Hip-Hop and feel good vibes ooze throughout this and the bedroom studio visuals are magnificent... This was actually more of a live performance for KnockSteady TV, but damnit, I'm callin it the vid! This is too nice...
If you dig down tempo, densely worded bangers.. pull up a chair...
Benz & BioLogic are the latest pair of Sea-Town talent to catch my ear with their unique pairing of skills... I know BenZ recently released an album, hit the link to venture to his FB page for more on that... As for BioLogic, man has some beats on him that's for sure...
Excited to hear more new talent, waitin to hear more from these cats..
DJ Soko strikes again and throws down on this The Find Mag sanctioned tape...
Soko, one third of Detroit group The Left, once again shows you why you need to be checkin for him on the mix tip and mixes together some of the more righteous new Hip-Hop that you should be checking for from fellow Detroit residents and some Mello Music Group folks as well...
Continuous, 23-track, 58 minute mix...

Take a journey with none other than Coney Island's Torae as he gives one of the more detailed accounts of his genesis in the game, including his early records and groups as well as his trials and tribulations...
This is a documentary style look at Tor's beginnings and it's an excellent one at that, including interviews with a bunch of Tor's closest peoples, and some of Hip-Hop's biggest names that stay collab'n with him now..
spotted via TheUrbanDaily..
Underground impresario and former Fondle Em' Records all-star, Yak Ballz makes his return to the rap scene with a very generous offering of his latest album "Gas Galaxy", for free....
Originally this was slated to be released in 09' on Def Jux, but seeing as how that didn't happen, we get it now....
Here's Yak's thoughts:
So much has happened through the creation of this record. Happy to share it with you it’s entirety. Welcome to Gas Galaxy. I would like to thank Chapter 7 for making this possible. To Oliver Cartwright for the amazing art provided for individual tracks in the process. Special thanks to Lunice and Circuit Bored for the remixes.
When the young, brash Brooklynite known as Skyzoo links with the brainy and soulful producer/professor 9th Wonder the results usually have been resounding.. This case is no different...
Paying homage to both an iconic piece of gear in Janspot backpacks and a one time young, brash prodigy in his own right in Chi-Ali, Sky laces this one properly..
Sky explains the science behind this cut below:
"The idea behind Jansport Strings is not based on it being literal, but more so in the figurative sense. As a kid in NY, the strings on your Jansport bag were a sign of power and presence. Kids would steal the strings off of each other's bags and burn the tips to prevent getting robbed of them once they got them. The song is a 3 minute auto-bio of me as a kid in Brooklyn and seeing more than my friends and I had bargained for. In essence, my Jansport strings tied it all together, seeing what we all saw and what it made us. The ending is a clip from Video Music Box, the legendary NYC video show run by DJ Ralph McDaniels. This episode in particular was the debut of Chi-Ali's 'Age Ain't Nothin But A Number'. Seeing that video that day on this episode of VMB made me start rhyming. This clip was literally the moment that changed my life." -Skyzoo
Sky's new album "A Dream Deferred" is due out this October 2nd..
Brand newness from Talib, Kendrick and Curren$y that absolutely takes you right into their home environs for the new visuals to their excellent collaboration track, "Push Thru".
Beautifully shot video, wonderful track produced by S1...
Directed by Scott Fleishman and Fredo Tovar.
How'd I miss this man???
I'mma keep the description brief, seeing as I'm waaay late on getting this to ya'll (about a month). All you really need to know is that this is 3 hours worth of demos from some of the best names in Hip-Hop, ever, all served up by none other than DJ JS-1..
91 tracks from names that absolutely molded the scene in the 90s...

Perhaps the hardest, realest track you gon' hear all Summer...
Chi-Town's Mikkey Halsted jumps on a superlatively done up cut from producer Young Chop that is sure to induce hardcore mental visualizations..
Mikkey handles business and gives one of the better hardcore writers of the past 10 or so years, Pusha T, a run for his money..
Mikkey's "Castro Project" that is being executively produced by both No I.D. and Don Cannon drops soon..
All you production fiends who love new names that really smash their shit together well, Warsaw, Poland based production team, Lower Entrance is for you..
This is track A2 (see above) off their upcoming "Mass Production" EP, that features PHH favorite Raashan Ahamd...
One of BBAS' standout producers laces up a sterling track that he actually only rhymes on with Tanya Morgan's Von Pea... they destroy Marink's production with honest verses and deliver a message loud and clear.
Nevermind the association of the track title being with one of the most nonfuckwitable brands now, (FUBU had it's run and it's long over), listen to the subject matter man! This is an anthem for all the cats out there that still make real rap for the real heads.. and will continue to do so...
The first rule of listening to Black Opera is that you don't ask too many questions about The Black Opera...
A brand new 7-track offering has found it's way to us.. it's comprised of joints we should already be familiar with...
Production on here is handled by some heavyweights... 14KT, Apollo Brown and DJ Rhettmatic all check in...
The Black Opera launched its first mission last year with Overture. The 7-track audio demonstration was the first glimpse of the secretive conglomerate of artists and musicians that act as counter-cultural operatives. Hidden in plain sight, Overture turned heads with production from 14KT, Apollo Brown, Rhettmatic, SlopFunkDust, J-Rell, and Nick Speed. Mello Music Group is providing the people with this introduction, Overture, free in an effort to recruit more people to the movement.

When the owner and founder of Fat Beats is gettin ready to put out a record, maaaan, you better pay attention...
Said owner is DJ Jab, and yes, he's preparing to release what I'm sure will be a great, great record, titled "The Trinity Project", that will feature names like Immortal Technique, Ill Bill, Slug, Grand Puba, Roc Marciano and many others..
Today's business however is this butter funk gem.. an unreleased J Dilla track that was purchased direct from Dilla's foundation... Over it, is none other than 90s stalwarts A.G. and Sadat X... those smooth vocals you hear are handled by Janelle Collins..
A cat that I spent a good amount of my time bumpin in High School, in his supposed hay day..
Nature, another piece of a very talented and vast Queensbridge picture that had for a lil' while, seemed to of moved on from rap, I'm happy to say has returned. Once upon a time this would be an emcee who I, a burgeoning young head, would easily throw into a convo abt slept-on emcees with a creative writing style. It does my mind well to hear he's once again frying the shit outta tracks.
"The Ashtray Effect" is a very strong reappearance for the former Firm member and is precisely what I've been waiting to hear from the man.. Co-hosted by Mickey Knox and Supersar Jay it contains a host of recent collabs, exclusive new tracks and a few classic cuts her and there..
Nature - The Ashtray Effect
Say it ain't really so... Say this man Hav ain't just make a straight scathing subliminal joint for Prodigy... and had Eddie Sancho mix the shit.. hahaha..
Welp, this shit has been going on for a minute.. I guess it culminates in this.. Your move P...
The South Florida duo known as The BenchWarmers (Joka Wild and Travesty) are back with a new and as per usual, dope single offering for all fans of all things authentic rap..
Taking a track from UK beatsmith Handbook, the two go to work crafting a straight up smooth effort. A perfect lil' tune to crank up while you peep the Olympics and one that'll give you a chance to turn Bob Costas' voice on mute.

The project is going to be called "This Generation" and it drops on September 26th... this be the initial single and yeah.. your interests should be effin' piqued.. Effin' piqued!!
More details below! West West baby!
To promote the album, Murs and Fashawn will tour cross-country as members of the Rock the Bells lineup in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles this summer. Their live shows will cement the fact that there is no generational gap on This Generation. Despite their varying ages and life perspectives, Murs and Fashawn have come together to create an energetic, passionate, and thoughtful work that is sure to please music fans worldwide.
It's here... As promised, VA producer and sometimes emcee Nottz has officially gotten up with his homeboy's once again and recorded some new material for all of us D.M.P. Click fans that been down since "Nottz: DMP The Mixtape" ...
"Live From Early Street" is the 21 track follow up that features Nottz, his beats, his crew and guest features from Phonte and Joell Ortiz...
Nottz & D.M.P. - Live From Early Street
New Masta Killa people!! AKA mandatory viewing...
Here the Wu clansmen debuts his new video for "What You See" and "Cali Sun", and it's refreshing to see how this man continues to grow, continues to do new things and take fresh approaches.. These joints just feel like Summer time partying don't they?
Directed by Jeff Pliskin... Masta Killa's new LP "Selling My Soul" comin soon!
Ahhhhh man... this is just.. wow.. how is Oddisee not in your Top 10 Best producers yet, and how have you not went out and copped everything associated with Homeboy Sandman yet??
Here the two burgeoning superstars in the upper realms of the underground fuel each other's creativity and craft a classic type cut, "Whatchu Want From Me?"
Homeboy's upcoming LP "First Of A Living Breed" drops on September 18th!!
If you're like me than you def. felt like one of the best new groups to spring forward last year was Detroit-based collective The Left, comprised of producer Apollo Brown (who is still housing shit) emcee Journalist 103 (who is nice with it) and DJ Soko (who can friggin' spin it).
I loved Apollo's solo releases as well as what he did with the group and as it turns out Soko actually put a lil' something together for one of the earlier, more slept-on one's that Apollo did...
"Nice little mini mix that I did for Mello Music Group around the time Apollo Brown's album The Reset had been released. It ended up not coming out until now. Apollo was making his waves as a new producer coming from Detroit so I made the intro to this mix a reflection of that going back from Motown leading up to Detroit hip hop and then to the rising of a new name in the Detroit hip hop community: Apollo Brown." -DJ Soko
New hardcore ish' for you hardcore lovers!
Boot Camp Clik'er Ruste Juxx preps his loyal following for his upcoming collab album with Beantown producer The Arcitype with this new video and single, "Rock To The Rhythm"...
Video is pretty straight forward.. love the scenes on the lowrider bike with Juxx just riding around and the scenes with Arcitype in the lab creating beats while smoking a cigar..
Juxx's and Arcitype's "V.I.C." is due out September 25th digitally and physically..
The always Jazzy and soulful production force known as Freddie Joachim slaps us in the face with a new instrumental fit for zoning out on the beach with... if you got a beach anyway..
While those blessed enough to enjoy this that way do so, I guess the rest of us can grab some binoculars and get down...
Freddie's latest is indeed a great look.. peep it out.
"Generation ADHD, Generation pay me, play me, Generation selfish.."
Some true words gettin kicked here.. some contending words for the youth.. maybe they oughta listen..
Cincinnati emcee Ill Poetic serves up a dandy here...
