Singles: Awkword ft. Sha Stimuli & Viro The Virus - The World Is Yours (prod. by Dominant1)

Last Friday newcomer Awkword went ahead and blasted off this new and powerful joint that explores the circumstances and challenges we livin' in today... Really nice contributions form his collaborators as well, Brooklyn's long running best kept secret of an artist Sha Stimuli comes thru and bodies his verse and NJ/Philly emcee Viro The Virus is on board too, for what registers as one of the few songs in recent memory that I've really stopped and listened to word for word and soaked in..

It's off Awkword's upcoming "World View"  album, which will donate 100% of the proceeds to charity... Now that's sayin somethin'...

Singles: Elite - Watch Me (prod. by DJay Cas)

Some more new talent for you guys to scope...

This week we have MC/producer Elite who hails from Connecticut and recently put out an entire mixtape titled "Awaken", that I think is also worth ya'll peepin' out...

Thought that project deserves your attention soon, this joint here is called "Watch Me" and is a leftover from said tape.. This is one of those really righteous leftovers tho, like cold pizza or a third of a Chipotle Burrito...

I like this kid's flow... one of the few Eastern cats that can pull off that sort of southern drawl w/o totally comin' off wack...

Elite - Watch Me (prod. by DJay Cas)

Singles: Scram Jones - Wildside

A lil' leftover from Scram's most recent project, "The Hat Trick", that BTW is a really excellent release that I think a lot of heads haven't been recognizing as much as they should...

"Wildside" finds Scram going in over ATCQ's classic "Can I Kick It" and doing so admirably...

Singles: The Kid Daytona ft. Action Bronson - Ivory Coast Crime Scene

Bronx rap slinga The Kid Daytona hits us off with a new joint from his "The Interlude II" mixtape which drops on December 19th...

Here Daytona teams with Hip-Hop foodie and man of the moment Action Bronson for some blistering bars.. The two go line for line impressively and I know a lot of folks that have continued not to keep Daytona's progress will instantly be drawn in again because of this... Shoulda been paying attention playa.. The first Interlude mixtape is out there.. go get it and study up...

The Kid Daytona ft. Action Bronson - Ivory Coast Crime Scene

Nas - GSQBKTA (God Son Queens Bridge Kill Them All!)

New, 16 track mixtape of Nasir's how should I put it, more abstract works...

One of the best things that Nas brings to the table as a veteran of his craft is that raw honesty that has proven to be the source for inspiration in his work time and time again... Some of his more slept-on gems included on this mix that is inspired by the recent interview he did with XXL, conducted by Tyler The Creator, are "Pussy Kills", "Ghetto Prisoners" and "Blunt Ashes".

Nas - GSQBKTA (God Son Queens Bridge Kill Them All!)

Snippets: The Roots - Undun

Last night we heard the excellence that was "One Time", today, courtesy of the best radio on radio (yeah, I'm a huge fan, fucking sue me) NPR, we get to hear the entire new Roots album...

There's an accompanying write up provided with the tracks as well from Charlie Kaplan that you can see a piece of below, but really just jump into this LP, it's a really strong release in my opinion..

The album is arranged gorgeously by the incomparable ?uestlove, The Roots' expert bandleader and producer, whose recent projects include the "Philly Paris Lockdown," a reinterpretation of the works of the French impressionist composers Erik SatieClaude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Onundun, ?uestlove renders the lush modality of these composers in the vibrant hues of early-'70s soul music; the eerie, ghostly outro of "Make My" sublimates the drug dealer's hopeless, nihilistic glory into misty Moog and starry synths in the vein of Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You?)."

The Roots - Undun

Singles: Toki Wright - Ode To Maximillian Cohen (π)

Minneapolis MC Toki Wright is hard at work preparing his new album, but in the meantime and between time Toki is serving up some really heady and worthwhile freebies to keep his fans satiated..

His latest is "Ode To Maximillian Cohen (π)":

Dedication to the lead character in Darren Aronofsky's 1998 Film "Pi (π)." Maximillian Cohen is a paranoid mathematician searching for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature. Relatable.

Singles: The Roots ft. Phonte & Dice Raw - One Time

We now have the latest single off the upcoming (Dec. 6th) new LP "undun" from The Legendary Roots Crew, that, after hearing this, just really is shaping up to be a 4th qtr classic...

Here Phonte and fellow Illadelph native and frequent collaborator Dice Raw go in with Black Thought over a perfect 1,2 piano loop and a drum loop that sounds an awful lot like Questlove was mimicking Mountain's "Long Red" break, but don't hold me to that...matter of fact I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, lol..

Just play this.. you'll be a better person for it...and oh yeah, Thought took that...yup...man is still so seminally untouchable on that mic.

The Roots ft. Phonte & Dice Raw - One Time

Singles: Scheme ft. Astonish - Life That I Chose (prod. by Slot-A)

What's the word outta the Chi? Welp, it's almost Winter so I imagine folks is bracing themselves for the worst right about now... crime is still outta control, the Bears are 7-4 and oh yeah, everyone's favorite Molemen, Scheme got a new joint...

"Life That I Chose" is one of those inspiring and fearless tributes that every person should try and create at least once in their life... Over Slot-A's wonderfully arranged, heart-tugging horns and strings Scheme details why he chose Chicago, the fast lane, Hip-Hop and all that good shit.

Fellow Chicagoan Astonish handles the hook masterfully and contributes a nice verse in his own right while DJ Scend gets busy on the cuts...

Look out for Scheme's EP of the same title on Dec. 6th...

Singles: ScholarMan - Best Gain (prod. by Toksik)

You still sleepin' on ScholarMan? Word? You serious?

The Maryland emcee "continues to stay focused, continues to flow sick" and drops off a new track titled "Best Gain", produced by Croatian beatmaker Toksik...He does an ample job of reminding folks that there's still plenty of really dope Hip-Hop comin up outta Maryland...

Video: Mr. Woodnote & Eva Lazarus - "Untitled"

European Sax wiz Mr. Woodnote teams with Bristol, UK songstress/emcee Eva Lazarus for a super Jazzy tune that has no official title, but plenty of character..

This is such a shot in the arm man...I needed this... great musicianship all the way around....and yeah, I guess they shot the video in an abandoned bus..in a field.. lol.. don't get no liver than that!

Singles: Daedelus - An Armada Approaches (James Pants Remix)

Some seriously large music goin on in here as James Pants remixes a Daedelus joint and expands it into a huge, fuzzy and melancholy opus... all of it conducted wondrously by the James Pants sea faring orchestra.

You'll find this piece on the new "Sounds Of Symmetry Vol.1." 7-inch that Stones Throw Records just put out..

Video Interview: Pete Rock For iKeepsIt100.com

The legend that is Pete Rock breaks down 21 answers for Fred Bear in this interesting and informative video interview...

Just Blaze over Alc Pete?? The Truck Over the Coupe?? Tyson over Ali??? Dig into this one..

Singles: Blu - ez (prod. by Madlib)

Wow, the west coast underground heads are gonna eat this one up...

Appears that a joint that Lib' threw to Black Star for a recent new single of theirs, actually is a joint that originally got thrown the way of Blu, who was planning on using it on a new collab project he has in the works with Madlib titled "ucla", that's due out, well...that's up in the air...

Blu's rendition over this beat is called "ez" and is recorded in his now [in]famous lo-fi style.. enjoy...

This Statik Selektah guy is a machine... flat out... one of the busiest cats in the game and even despite the heavy workload, the actual product stays on point...

Holy crap soccer moms are tearing each other to fucking shreds in Wal-Mart, so Christmas must be right around the corner....

To get you in the festive mood, The Low Budget Crew has gone ahead and put together a whole album of Christmas-inspired beats that I must say register as the best and only compilation of such I've ever heard... Singles: KingHellBastard ft. Joell Ortiz - Commercial Free (prod. by White Shadow)

Milwaukee rhyme slingers KingHellBastard (Dana Coppafeel, DNA, Shemp, DJ1L, The White Russian and Reason)  are finna drop their new album "The WarRoom" on ya heads and they've wisely chosen to put out the joint he did with Joell Ortiz as the single..

Good Hip-Hop is everywhere and "Commercial Free" is a true example of that.. one quick note on the great boom bap'd production that you hear is none other than The White Shadow Of Norway (I guess he just goes by White Shadow now) who has long been a purveyor of great Hip-Hop out in Europe and has worked with virtually all of the best stateside underground names..great look to have him do the beat...okay, I've geeked out enough, enjoy.

KingHellBastard ft. Joell Ortiz - Commercial Free (prod. by White Shadow)

Singles: The Demigodz - Demigodz Is Back

The Demigodz (Apathy, Celph Titled & Ryu) are readying a new album for 2012 (tentatively) and this be that first bone crunching, head nodding single...

You'll recognize the sample as Rocky's training montage theme music, Apathy handled the beat work and flipped it beautifully...strong first cut...can't wait for the album.

The Demigodz - Demigodz Is Back

Video: J-Live – The Authentic (Prod. Marco Polo)

A lil' late on this, but I had to throw it up..

"S.P.T.A." is available now ppl!

Singles: Sene ft. Soul Khan - Say Anything

Mesmerizingly good track from Sene that features Soul Khan and was gonna originally be featured on the former's "Exit,Us" project, but was unfortunately cut off of it at the last minute.. Vibe with this...

News: Loon Arrested In Belgium On Drug Charges

Heroin charges? C'mon Loon.. why the fuck you go back? Don't tell me some shit like that slips your mind... Hopefully this is all a misunderstanding..

Via DDotOmen:

It appears the former Bad Boy rapper Loon, born Chauncey Hawkins, now known as Amir Junaid Muhadith found himself in the world of trouble after entering Belgium. He was cuffed on drug charges in relation to an indictment for felony heroin distribution charges back in May. According to Parlamento the dealings were from 2006-2008 and occurred in North Carolina, Hawkins had since left the country finding asylum in Algeria. He was recently spotted in Belgium and taken into custody where he will be extradited to the United States. You can view a copy of the indictment below.

Video: DPGC - Forever In A Day

Uhhhhh, yeah, Brazil man... BRAZIL!!

The new DPGC joint is definitely ill, but come on man, one can't help but to be a lil' jealous of all that...uhhhm, "scenery" that Daz and Kurupt get to take in on their trip... Looks like they had a righteous lil' time...

New DPGC LP comin soon I guess, but eff all that... skip the vid to 3:20-3:29...heavenly... haha!

Video: Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire - Lou Ferigno's Mad

New visuals from Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire, AKA one of NYC's newest hardcore, slow flow rap progeny's..

I'm still not 100% sold on eXquire, but I will say this jawn is def. bumpin'...as far as the video, yeah, lol, it's a lil' manic and there's some pretty good/suggestive imagery going on.. lol, nice utilization of those grainy, analog, VHS porn clips...

If you like what you hear peep the whole tape from which this is taken..."Lost In Translation"

Afu-Ra - "3 Song EP"

Afu-Ra definitely was doin his thing back in the 90's and while he did go on a brief hiatus there for a bit, the Brooklyn, Gangstarr Foundation member and Martial Arts enthusiast emcee is back to doing what he always did well, and that's kickin raw, poetic and knowledge infused raps...

He has a whole album ("Body Of  The Life Force Pt. 2") coming soon, but to warm fans back up, he's puttin out this free, 3 track EP first...

Afu-Ra - "3 Song EP"

Singles: Kendrick Lamar ft. Busta Rhymes - Rigamortis (Remix)

True to his word, Kendrick goes ahead and blasts off a new remix for all of his clamoring fans, that features the newest YMCMB signee an all-time Hip-Hop great...

The original version of "Rigamortis" is coo, but, yeah, I think I'm diggin this much heavier... those horns + that bassline are just..great. Kendrick is the new generation...

Kendrick Lamar ft. Busta Rhymes - Rigamortis (Remix)

Cover Art: Kooley High Presents...David Thompson

The North Carolina collective Kooley High is back, readying their 2nd LP the enigmatically titled "David Thompson"....

As a longtime Nuggets fan you know I ain't mad at that title at all! The high flying forward who possessed the handles of a guard and spent 7 seasons in Denver and was frequently referred to as "Skywalker" will long be remembered for his insane vertical (a legitimate 48 inches) and smooth game..

You might be wondering why these new jacks selected him as the title and what the whole connection is, if so, read below...

Produced by DJ Pr!nce, Napoleon Wright II, and Tecknowledgy… This new project pays tribute to Kooley High’s NC roots as they try to reach the astronomical heights David “Skywalker” Thompson did when he lead the N.C. State University basketball team to their national championship win in 1974. David Thompson features guest spots from Skyzoo, Median, King Mez, Homeboy Sandman, and The Kid Daytona.

You can grab this new project on December 6th via Fat Beats.

Video: The Roots - Sleep

The almighty Roots collective is gearing up to drop "Undun" on us, as I'm sure you've heard, and now they've laced the initial tune off the album; "Sleep", with a poignant video..

Aaaron Livingston on the vocals and video directed by Clifton Bell...

Video: EP of the Doppelgangaz Makes A Beat

Some raw footage here of EP going to work in Reason 6, illustrating the tact and care that he puts into his production and a lil' bit of how he gets that Doppelgangaz sound, which BTW is fast becoming more and more recognizable .. I know I enjoy the shit out of it man.. dark, gritty samples always backed by great drums ...

Singles: yU - If You Down (prod. by Slimkat78)

"I remember my beginnings when I'm winning"

New single off the upcoming new album "The Earn", from critically acclaimed (esp. on PHH) new DMV artist yU...

This is truly an in-depth song that extrapolates on a lot of themes and the overall story arc of struggle.. Over a somber, yet bouncy track laced by his 1978ers group mate Slimkat78, yU takes this thing apart and puts it back together again...

"The Earn" drops on Dec. 13th....grab it, if you down!

Singles: Blacastan & Audible Doctor - Black Magic (Audible Docter Remix)

Gibbs and Lib'? Didn't see that one comin', but it works!

At Friday’s Madlib Medicine Show tour stop in San Francisco, the producer announced a collaborative project with the rapper Freddie Gibbs. Gibbs also debuted “Thuggin’” and “Deep,” from their debut EP. The 6-track record is released on Madlib’s Madlib Invazion label – the imprint the producer founded to release his 13 Madlib Medicine Show volumes. The duo’s as-of-yet untitled album is planned for release in first quarter 2012.

Singles: Ras Kass - Holes In The Ozone (prod. by Doc Hollywood)

The ultimate dope metaphor flip... their trash ass music = pollution of our airspace...

Ras Kass pushes forth that premise excellently here, over a hazy and head nodding Doc Hollywood beat... Great new leak, off Razzy's upcoming "F.I.L.A. (Fuckit Loseit All)" project coming this Spring..

Video: Freddie Gibbs & Statik Selektah ft. Smoke DZA & Chace Infinite - Keep It Warm For Ya

Music video from Freddie Gibbs & Statik Selektah for ‘Keep It Warm For Ya’ featuring Smoke DZA & Chace Infinite. Directed By Derek Pike.

Singles: Gangrene (Alchemist & Oh No) ft. Prodigy - Dump Truck

I heard someone say earlier today that Alchemist and Oh No (Gangrene) are officially spearheading the new Hip-Hop sub-genre known as Psych-Rap... that's an articulate way of putting it... I think I woulda just said that the two west coast beatsmiths that like to rhyme make fuzzed out hyper violent shit that's great to smoke to...

Prodigy is along for the ride on this one, and yeah, the new album is droppin January 24th via Decon Records and it's called "Vodka & Ayahuaska", lmao.. yess....

Just the stream here (which you prolly know how tro steal anyway), but you can cop this joint here.

Single: PremRock and Willie Green ft. Soul Khan, C-Rayz Walz & DJ Addikt - Had To Be Me

Isolated Wax Records links with PremRock and Willie Green to bring us the 2nd official single off the duo's Self-titled LP that dropped back on September 28th, but is no less a banger and a great collaborative effort..

Here the two link up w/ BBAS's Soul Khan and underground/indie rap legend C-Rayz Walz...If you like fierce lyricism and a no nonsense sound bed, check in.. you'll like "Hard To Be Me" and do peep that album!

Tanya Morgan - You & What Army (EP)

What a treat this is...

Tanya Morgan burst onto the consciousness of the underground Hip-Hop world in 2005 and I've been a fan since.. Having initially all linked via the Okayplayer message board, Donwill, Von Pea and Ilyas (who is unfortunately no longer with the group for this release) have been crafting great music for awhile now and today we get their latest release, "You & What Army".

9 tracks, tons of thoughtful, wonked out lyricism, great production and guest spots from Exile, Jermaside, Tiffany Page, Napoleon and Che Grand...

Jordan Craft - Not Just A F*#@in' Mixtape

What would PHH be if we ain't take the time to highlight up and coming talent?

This week I'm pleased and proud to bring ya'll CO emcee Jordan Craft and his recent project "Not Just A F*#@in' Mixtape", that dropped back at the onset of this past Summer...

I've been in CO a while, and I know when a local talent is kidding themselves and when they're legitimately nice. This man has what it takes to possibly put the state that's somewhat unknown for musical prowess on the map nationally..

Craft's reflective and honest lyrics pour out like butter over well chosen production straight through this release; that for just a "tape", is awfully cohesive...

Hosted by DJ Incredible outta VA.

DJ Chorizo Funk - Chorizo Chunks 11

If any of you super hip chicks or righteously smooth cats need a funky mix to get down with, than dig this jive....

lol, ight enough of that... but yeah, I know I've got some crate and 45 fiends that come thru to PHH on the frequent that'll appreciate this 70 minute mix of funk, soul, body rock,  and grooves put together by Chorizo Funk for the 11th installment of his "Chorizo Chunks" series....

Guess it went down live in Austin back in July as Chorizo opened up for Rich Medina... this is proper stuff... infuse yaself with some real music!

Video: Action Bronson & Statik Selektah - Not Enough

New visuals from Bronson and Statik off their new release "Well-Done", which I gotta say is a beast of a project... do pick that up on Nov. 22nd...

LOL, okay, now that that's done... yooo, does my man Action got charisma or what? The lady killer baby! Def. gives off some of those old Pun vibes with the way he acts on camera... lol..

Directed by Tom Gould & Alexander Richter, who yeah, those cameras they using are that deal...

Singles: Boog Brown - UPS (Dunc Of DTMD Remix)

Dunc of DTMD def. does this remix of my most acclaimed, new femcee's track some justice...

It's the season of the remix it seems and a host of artists are utilizing their old pro tools sessions and while I really honestly won't be checking for everything, I will say that Boog's release of "The Brown Study Remixes" will be very anticipated...Look to be able to grab that on December 2nd...

Singles: Homeboy Sandman - Not Pop (Jinesis Remix)

Usually Homeboy's work is perfectly fine left the way it is... I can say honestly that this remix is a nice improvement on an already really ill track...

Jinesis provides the new soundtrack for Homeboy's rambled, uber-sharp lyrics... I got some real opinions on the track as a whole, but right now let's just listen to what Jinesis' thoughts on this are:

When first hearing Homeboy Sandman's "Not Pop" song there were lines that stuck out to me. One of the lines was "they tell me dumb it down, I tell them smarten up". At first I was going to take that part and flip it on some chop & screw vibe, but that didn't happen. I decided to turn this flip into a remix and I came up with this.

We the Spartans, son. Pardon us.

Singles: Notes To Self ft. Evidence - Nobody (Recoil Remix) (prod. by Brook And Bronze)

T Dot emcee Notes To Self is prepping his new release "Used To Be Dark {Recoil}" and what better way to alert the masses about it than to release one of the most monster joints off it, that features the west coast underground man of the moment; Evidence? There is no better way...At least not to me there ain't...

Joint is really produced by Book And Bronze and yeah, that guy's talented...

Singles: Moka Only & Chief - Mess Around (Elaquent Remix)

A remix already? I'm down... Pretty slick re-working as well...all props due to Ontario beat wrecker, Elaquent, who re-imagined this banger oh so well For Moka and Chief...

Moka and Chief are gonna re-release their recently released "Crickets" album in remix/EP form on November 25th...save ya duckets!

Singles: Mobb Deep ft. Nas - Get It Forever

These three making a record in 2011 is surreal... anyone who was riding around bumpin "It's Mine" back in 99' knows exactly what the fuck I mean... Re-assuring and actually a pretty decent track..

Off the Mobb's upcoming "Black Cocaine" EP, dropping on Black Friday...

Mobb Deep ft. Nas - Get It Forever

Interview: M.O.P. For KevinNottigham.com

Kinda surprising to hear that M.O.P. ain't feeling the Nets' move.. Then again I can feel a lot of Danze's arguments and, not to mention there is a certain feeling of immense gentrification that I get when I see a pro team moving into a location like the one they're seeking to... Will the residents in the surrounding area even have a chance to go see games? Doubtful...

Tons of other stuff covered in the interview, just felt those aspects the most...Interview masterfully conducted by Uptown Bobby of KevinNottingham.com

Uptown: Your former labelmate Jay-Z, has had his hand in getting Brooklyn a team. Did you to ever think you would live to see another major sports team in Brooklyn?
Billy: Nah, I didn’t think I would get to see another team in Brooklyn. But, where their putting that stadium, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but somebody is gonna get the shit robbed out of them.  They know they aint got no business fucking around in that ghetto. You can’t put all that money in a place where niggas are starving and not expect shit to pop off. It’s like, you’re gonna come over here and wave your big bag of money around and tell me I can’t have it? Nah, aint gonna happen, B. I hope it works out, but you will not see me attending any games and that’s all I’m gonna say about that.
Uptown: Wait, so we’ll never see M.O.P. wearing any Brooklyn Nets memorabilia?
Billy: We’ll wear hats.Fame: I’ll wear the shit out of a Brooklyn Nets hat.Billy: Nine times out of ten, you might see Fame there because that’s his area, but me? Nah, son.Fame: I agree that it’s a good thing, but you can’t put all of that money in the hood and not expect niggas to snatch it. Don’t expect all that good stuff to happen without any bad, though.
