Singles: JR & PH7 ft. Elzhi & Frank-N-Dank - The City

You got no clue how long I've been waitin on these cats' new record....

Ever since JR & PH7 dropped 2009''s "The Standard" I've been a fan of the German production team's knock for excavating some of the nicest soul lifts out there.

They've got a new record called "The Update" that pretty much follows suit with their first amazing release and here's one of the more stunning tracks off it in "The City". Detroit city reppers Elzhi and Frank-N-Dank do the damn thing here over some resounding horns and some shakers that fit perfectly...grab this and be sure to pick up "The Update" as well.

News: Miss Info Sounds Off About Homeland Security Seizing Popular Hip-Hop Blogs

In case you hadn't heard, the feds have been runnin' a muck on the web lately, shutting down more than a few websites and blogs that was heavy in the online Hip-Hop world....needless to say this is once again an example of homeland security just doin some shit rather than really investigating the roles that some of these sites/blogs was playin'...True, some of em' was disseminating copyrighted material, but most of em' was simply providing a conduit for artists to get their music out there--and that is the only way to really promote on the net these days.

Shortee of The Source Magazine, Ms. Info of Hot 97 gossip fame took a moment on her "Celebrity Drama" segment to break down the insanity of what The Department of Homeland Security has been up to...

Well done Minya...but be careful, you may be in danger of tredding back into the waters of authentic Hip-Hop journalism...

Kno of Cuninlynguists drops a stunning black and white visual for his new vid, "La Petite Mort".

I enjoy the seriousness and almost depressed mood here...we need a lot more of this weighty type of stuff from emcees today. Really dope tune overall...do remember, if you haven't copped Kno's latest and debut LP "Death Is Silent".

Statik Selektah & Termanology - 1982 The EP

Previously only available when you purchased their new album "1982", now the exclusive EP that Boston reppers Statik Selektah and Termanology put out is available to the rest of you silly few that didn't cop their debut collab record.

The 9 track EP contains features from names like Chace Infinite of Self Scientific, Reks, Kali and from Ghetto and Ea$y Money of ST. The Squad fame.

Considering that the actual album was pretty strong I think this right here has a good chance to be worthwhile...at the end of the day Statik and Term have a chemistry that reaches back to when they were both in high school...that almost always yields good music for them.

Video Interview: AZ For Mikey T The Moviestar

AZ drops a pretty candid interview and after he discusses a bit about his new re-release of  the 15th Anniversary edition of "Doe Or Die" and his upcoming "Doe Or Die II" record  he delves into some new and somewhat saddening news about his prospects of retiring.

I believe Sosa 100% when he says he's about to 'wrap it up'...If anyone can say he did what he had and needed to do it's him...definitely.

DJ Nu-Mark - Take Me With You

L.A. Deejaying staple DJ Nu-Mark provides us all with an aural excursion in his latest mix, "Take Me With You".

Billed as the perfect mix to have on hand on your next tropical vacation Nu-Mark aims to point out the bonds that are shared between various genres....

I was inspired to make a mix that captures funk inspired rhythms from music I’ve collected on my tours/travels around the world. The goal of this mix is to show the rhythmic similarities between Samba, Cumbia, Calypso, Rhumba, Afro-Beat and Balkan Beats in well blended mix. -DJ Nu-Mark
I  will wholeheartedly co-sign the overall illness of this mix...Nu splashes together so many different things and ties them all together rhythmically... brilliant!

Single: Stik Figa & Oddisee - From The Top

Topeka, KS-based emcee Stik Figa links up with the pride of the DMV in Oddisee for a great new track, titled "From The Top".

Over a somber piano loop and with resounding horns that crash in these two kill this as beautifully as any two emcees could. Hand that co-production credit to Oddisee who along with Dunc of DTMD has ownership of the production credits here.

If you like this joint's direction than do check out the recently released Mello Music Group compilation record "Helpless Dreamer" and just overall check for any and everything that Mello Music Group puts out...I've yet to be disappointed by the Arizona based label...they've got nuthin' but real artists in their stable and are one of the last hopes for true Hip-Hop...

Creative, manic new video from the people's champ out west...Blu

This joint is absolutely nuts....hats off to Flying Lotus for producing it...so many textures and moods in one song...man...this joint is on some whole other shit, right down to the animation, which BTW in case your wondering was done by a cat that goes by the name 'ruffrugged&rowdy'.

Apparently "GNG BNG" is scheduled to be on Blu's new album "No York" (LOL, if he really titles it that shit I'mma die) that's supposed to drop sometime next year.

Video: Homeboy Sandman - Strange Planet

One of the game's most stunning new lyricist's and performer's drops another video....

"Strange Planet" is one of thee main reasons why "The Good Sun" was so insanely good. here Homeboy Sandman flexes his sheer gift for rhyming as he layers and layers his lines to perfection...Oh yeah, the video is pretty dope too, lol...

He's already released vids for "The Essence" "Calm Tornado" and "The Carpenter" and this joint nicely rounds out the visual efforts put forth for "The Good Sun"; an album that I firmly think is one of the best of 2010 and which is also available now!

Single: The Rza - You Don't Owe Me

Make way for ya latest Wu Wednesday Thursday offering...

The Rza hits us off with a nicely executed new joint that samples a record my moms used to bump in the ride in Ms. Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me"...

Here's how The Abbot describes this joint's inspiration:

THIS IS A SONG TALKING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE TRY TO TELL WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO BE… THE SONG CAN RELATE TO A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN OR CITIZENS AND AUTHORITY…OR JUST ANY CONFRONTATION SUCH AS A BOUNCER AT A CLUB WITH THE GUEST LIST… PEACE, RZA

Video: People Under The Stairs - Beer

Besides the fact that PUTS is one of the most talented, creative and outright dope tandems out there doin it, their new video "Beer" is cool for the fact that they filmed it in Fort Collins and Boulder...That's northern Colorado for all ya'll that aren't familiar with the rocky mountain region.

Indeed this joint was shot around the corner from the Fox Theater in Boulder and at the Odell Brewing company  in Fort Collins...Pure fun as usual, Thes One and Double K get the party rolling as they craft an apt ode to all types of that wonderful concoction known the world over as Beer...

Directed by Matt Hobbs, who does a great job....Off PUTS' new album "Carried Away" which is available now...

Video Interview: Pete Rock For AllHipHop Radio

Getting up with AllHipHop to talk a lil' bit about the hub bub surrounding this and how he'd like the remix to feature Common and Ghostdeini...Yeah, I'd be down with that indeed! Even if I am partially disgusted that some of these posers AKA Kanye fans are going to try and start jockin Pete Rock's shit now just b/c that weirdo grabbed a beat off him I'm kinda psyched to see some of these 17 yr olds gettin into PR...Ya'll shoulda BEEN been up on Pete man, but it is what it is I guess....

The Kid Daytona - The Interlude LP

I know a lot of times on PHH I tend to keep things pretty underground and/or hardcore in terms of the type of Hip-Hop I pump into the ceaseless stream of internet media, but every now and again I loosen my standards and post a project that is a lil' more broad in it's appeal...I give ya'll The Interlude LP...

Okay, so The Kid Daytona probably registers a good bit in the hardcore area and some of these features will appeal to underground heads (9th Wonder, Aloe Blacc) and all of that is a good thing. With that said, I think that this tape definitely tries to split those hairs of underground, mainstream, hardcore, lyrical, etc., etc.,...

It's a diverse listen in spots...One thing i really dug was how Daytona paid homage to a lot of 90's lore by taking some of our most beloved interludes and beat outros and gettin' em' re-flipped and then rhyming over em'...MAD inventive.

All thanks due to LRG for puttin this out.

Single: Roc Marciano - Scarface N*gga

When I first heard that Roc Marciano's virtuoso of a hardcore opus "Marcburg" was going to be revamped and re-mixed and re-titled "Reloaded" I was sincerely giddy...I'm even more anxious and excited today as we get one of the first leaks off said project....

"Scarface N*gga" is a brutally titled and even more bruising exercise in what used to be so great about the criminology-inspired NYC rap landscape...Dead pan, unapologetic and glaringly aggressive, this is that shit that sends me right back to the mid 90's when acts like Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang were running this rap shit.

Video: Toki Wright - A Different Mirror

When Rhymesayers label member and all around righteous brother Toki Wright dropped his debut solo effort "A Different Mirror" last year, I was hailing it as a great record early on. The man brings about consciousness in a true revolutionary fashion and in the past year has added a bunch of even further in-depth work to his new resume.

It's only just recently that Toki released the title track video for his stellar debut and I gotta say it's one of the more headier efforts I've seen this year...Here's the official description:

The music video for the title track from my album "A Different Mirror" is an analysis of the power dynamic in the United States. Throughout generations since the onset of the Transatlantic Slave Trade men and women have been forced into a cycle of poverty, abuse, and systemic dependency. A mirror will expose whatever images are put in its path. It is my hope that this video exposes the story of another America, its vicious cycles, and helps to break them down in the name of progress and understanding.
The imagery is right on time and very well done...hats off to director Andrew Melby....

Single: Rapsody - U Sparklin (prod. by 9th Wonder)

While I found 9th's most recent "Opus" to be more than a lil' disappointing I will say that there were some loose parts to it that were very encouraging...One of the biggest bright spots being femcee Rapsody who was featured on the album and owned her guest duty.

The sultry voiced, Kooley High member is a reflective new face that is truly gifted and has a way of relating things that appeals to me in not only a highly intellectual way, but also a sensuous manner as well. In other words she's dope.

She's got a Fre(EP) droppin on the 7th of December ("Return Of The B-Girl") that i'll be scooping up, here's ya first dose...

Single: Copywrite - Serotonin (prod. by Josh Gabriel)

Hmmmm, for me the verdict is still out on this one..which is kinda crazy considering I've liked all the other leaks off of Copy's upcoming new album "The Life And Times Of Peter Nelson"...

"Serotonin" is moody, brooding and unlike real 'serotonin', it doesn't much contribute to my feelings of well being or have to do with my digestive tract. Production on this was a pretty high point, and that was handled by Josh Gabriel, formerly of Gabriel And Dresden...

Video: Gasface Media Presents New York Minute Episode 4: Night Nurse W/ G. Dep

This is such a well done and captivating video/mini documentary from Media Gasface/NYM.....

G. Dep was at one point in the late 90's and early 2K's a man that was on the rise...He had signed to a re surging Bad Boy Records and had a few hits in the process leading up to and during the release of his debut album "Child Of The Ghetto". The album itself  was critically praised pretty widely, but failed to sell in a mirror fashion...Dep was soon released from his contract with Bad Boy and that pretty much set off a series of events that would find him toiling and suffering setback after setback....

Dep ended up doing a stint in Rikers Island and is still somewhat languishing in the bowels of the NYC streets after his release, but he was good enough to take some of his time and discuss his meteoric rise and fall in the game here. He goes through how he and Puff first linked (Puff came thru to Dep's projects in a Bentley) his incarceration and how he felt let down by Puff's business end of dealing with him.

Scheme - Same Rebel, New Cause (Deluxe Edition)

Chicago emcee Scheme has obliged us kindly in re-releasing his "Same Rebel, New Cause" mix, this time in Deluxe edition format...

He keeps it highly Chi-Town once again and you'll find a host of windy city names guest featuring on this version including Mikkey Halsted, Astonish and a new favorite of mine, Add-2...

I know this man Scheme is letting this go for free, but if you like what ya hear and like myself really admire that great artwork job, swing by iTunes and purchase this joint...
