Video/Interview: Raekwon For New Balance

The Chef details his genesis comin up in the Stapleton section of Staten Island and shares his love for a shoe/brand that I must say is completely worthy...New Balances...

Describing some of his favorite shopping haunts around NYC and why aesthetically he loves the look of New Balances, you get an insight into how and why Rae digs this brand so much...

Really, I feel him 100% on this..Growing up a lot of cats always broke themselves for the Nikes and Reebok's, and that was fine, whatever, I did too at times, but I also used to mess with a variety of other brands like Puma and yes, New Balance, which indeed had models that were really unique and would easily turn heads.. As an added bonus, I know back in the day New Balances was like, thee only shoe brand that was assembled in America, so, if things like sweat shops and the like bothered folks they could take some solace in coppin' those.

props to DJ Mars...

Single: Kurupt ft. Murs & Uncle Chucc - This Is Your Day

It's kind of rare these days that Kurupt puts out anything that I can vibe with...This of course was not always the case, but I digress....

Here, the Philly born, West Coast legend (we can debate that later) links up with Murs and the result is magical.. letting Uncle Chucc soulfully croon the hook was a nice look as well... Powerful music with a message right here...

Off Kurupt's "Penagon Rydaz" ....

Sahara Gravesend, Brooklyn
"Got to take you to Sahara. It's one of my favorite places in the world because, you know, I grew up going there. It's a Turkish kabob grill fancy dining type place. My whole family, we would always have little parties over there. Every time someone would have a wedding or a birthday party, we would always go to Sahara. My favorite dish is the baby lamb chops. I think lamb is my favorite thing on the earth. These people don't care about having a big-name chef; it's very authentic. The people are from other countries, it's not like the chef is bringing the people in—it's the food and the family atmosphere and stuff like that."

TaipanFlushing, Queens
"It's Indo-Chinese Halal fusion. It sounds weird but pretty much basically what it is Indian food cooked Chinese style, in woks and stuff like that, you know? The chili-fried lamb, it's the most divine thing in the world. Extra, extra spicy. The meat is cooked perfectly—it's actually fried very shallow in a little bit of oil, it's tossed with all kinds of chili peppers. Get it with a side order of the sweet corn soup. That dish—there's something about it that just talks to me."

Lee Bannon - Fantastic Plastic EP

You livin' that plastic life? Think again...Sac-Town beatsmith of the moment Lee Bannon convinces you that you absolutely are..

Earlier this year, the offices of Plug Research received a mysterious package from Lee Bannon. Inside was a CD-R with a note written on it, “this is my Fantastic Plastic LP. you wanna put it out?” The music was a grimy journey through beats that brought to mind Madlib and early Flying Lotus.
The indie label agreed to release the record. “This Fantastic Plastic project that I’m doing with Plug, it’s a producer album for the heads,” says Lee in a rare public statement via phone call. “I don’t see the radio masses getting it. It’s really, really dirty and I like that. It’s almost my ambient record.”
When asked about the title of the record, Lee explained, “think about everything in your life that is plastic. Even my deodorant has plastic, the headphones I’m using to engineer music has plastic, all my keyboards are plastic, I open a plastic bag to get my chips. Fantastic Plastic represents a world ruled by plastic.

Interview: Kool G Rap Talks Godfathers Project W/ Necro

Thanks to Platform 8470 we all get a lil' insight on what to expect from the monster collabo album from the mafiosi rap progenitor and the gore rap king...

Platform 8470.com: What can we expect?
Kool G Rap: A lot of people can only imagine. But since both of us are like similar in what we do, we’re both like raw, underground spitters, they will have an idea already. We’re both rappers with a sophisticated flow, multisyllabic. It’s that hardcore rugged attack, that griminess. For instance, if I was to name some records that you can compare this project to, you can expect to hear a Necro - G Rap ‘Men At Work’ or ‘Wanted: Dead Or Alive’, or ‘Poison’. This project is right along the lines of that, but very much 2011-ish
I’m impressed by the material we’re working on right now. I’m amped up and charged. I know the people that are waiting and anticipating the project are gonna be completely satisifed. This is gonna be that raw, lyrical, spitting, hardcore, street. I mean all these different things wrapped up into one. The fans out there that are familiar with Necro’s work and my own work, I know their imagination can just put it together on what us two, Necro and G Rap, are gonna do. What we could possible be capable of doing on our own, what we could be doing together, they can only imagine, but they will have some kind of idea

Video: 2011 Nike MAG: Back For The Future Promo W/ Bill Hader, Kevin Durant, Tinker Hatfield & Doc Brown

Haven't done a post on threads in awhile, and this one really, really pleases me...

Back to the Future flicks were some of the dopest aspects of my childhood and so many others and of course when all of us seen those shoes in the movies that were futuristic as all get out we dreamed about being able to have a pair...well, now Nike is finally droppin' em' so to speak...

The Nike MAG was released 5 days ago in limted amounts for auction on Ebay, and the proceeds will go to Michael J. Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Disease, and along with em' Nike dropped this great promo... ignore Durant's awkward and quite novice delivery and focus on the great Doc Brown cameo! This took me back!

Video: Scram Jones - One September Day

I know that all of you have been inundated with 9/11 shit up to your fucking eyeballs, and yeah I get that healing is all about moving on, but sometimes it's good to pay ya respects and remember something...something that changed you, your friends and so many others...

I feel like 9/11 was one of those events where Americans got as close to being one consciousness as they probably ever will...of course that wore off quickly and divisions went up again..many of which were understandable...

Today is a day when a great evil deed was carried out on innocent ppl and America suffered... let's leave it at that and look at it through the lens of a native New Yorker, Scram Jones, and his new vid "One September Day", that I think re-constructs at a very basic level what that day was like for many unfortunately...

One Be Lo - LABOR (Stream)

Michigan underground legend and Binary Star member, One Be Lo kindly lets us preview the entirety of his new album "LABOR" via his bandcamp...

If you're not aware of this cat or his previous work you need to begin to gain your consciousness immediately... One has long been one of the nicest out there and on "LABOR" he continues in that fashion, serving up his usual brand of immensely thoughtful lyric and rhyme..

This is real Hip-Hop....get ya preview on and then break the man off his $12 bones.

Cover Art: Styles P - Master Of Ceremonies

I can't think of a better album title for this man than this...

Happy that The Ghost is still out there making hardcore Hip-Hop music and I'm hoping he does his numbers this time out...

You can grab this October 4th...

Veterano - Westside Stories

West coast production upstart Veterano has truly crafted a nice soundtrack for all you end of Summer mourners....

This amazing mix takes it's inspiration from the tunes that 70's and 80's babies heard they folks bumpin' in the ol' big body or in the kitchen on Saturday... These joints are also west coast low ridin' staples...It's hard to explain the music that coincides with a lot of Chicano culture, but really, in a few words it's soul, it's real and it's probably the best black music that was ever made in this country of any time period...ever..and yes, for some reason the vatos have been loving it for decades...

Take a stroll w/ Veterano here as he introduces you to the music that inspired a whole coast...

Cover Art: Jedi Mind Tricks - Violence Begets Violence

On October 25th Vinne Paz and Jus Allah will release the 7th album from JMT which is titled "Violence Begets Violence" ....

While any news of a new release from JMT is always pretty big, the story behind this release that is quickly taking shape is how longtime in-house producer Stoupe will not be taking part in teh creation of this record...

The fact that Stoupe's signature sound won't be backing up Vinnie this time around is somewhat highly wack, but I don't think this will be a permanent move... In any case there will be plenty of other production talent showcased this time out, including Mr. Green, Shuko, Grand Finale and Nero...
