DJ Drama and La The Darkman- The Notorious L.A.D.

DJ Drama the mouth of the south (who ironically is originally from Philly) returns with his frequent collaborator La The Darkaman and drops a serious mixtape. At first glance one would think that La has simply sold out and decided to go the commercial route, but surprisingly that coulden't be further from the case. This joint is one of the strongest, if not the strongest mixtapes that has dropped this year so far. Rarely do we hear new stuff from La unless it is on a DJ Drama tape or album, so to see what these two had in the vaults this whole time is interesting. Besides a few mis-steps on here courtesy of collaborations with Young Joc, Juelz Santana and Lil' Wayne, this is some great work from La. He's stayed true to his regular lyrical fodder of Guns, drugs and women, but he's still creative about it, and if you don't believe me listen to "Bad Ass Black Boy" or a "A Nigga From The Streets". Both are examples of how La is managing to stay relevant in the ever changing and ever evolving world of hardcore street hip-hop. There's some good production on here in spots, but don't expect to hear the same lineup from Hiest Of The Century or anything, I think at the most Don Cannon turns in one or two ill joints.
