Finale - A Pipe Dream And A Promise

Here's a new release that along with T.O.'s, will have you talking for days.....

Dropping "A Pipe Dream And A Promise" on Bay Area label Interdependent Media (Canibus, K’naan, Truthlive, and Tanya Morgan) sometime next month, the one time Automotive engineer Finale made his way onto the Detroit Hip-Hop scene the good old fashioned way. Hustling and bustling through many an open mic and emcee battle in and around the area, he would soon mingle with other local, high brow acts like Guilty Simpson and One Be Lo, but really got his big break when he linked up with the biggest and best name outta the D ever in legendary producer J Dilla.

After hearing some tracks that he sent him via email, Dilla came to regard Finale's music very highly and even introduced him to L.A. production genius Madlib. From there it was only expected that Finale would take his musical career into overdrive and pursue rap full-time.

With the help of some of the most skilled underground producers out there in Kev Brown, Khrysis, Oddisee, Nottz, Ta'Raach and Mphazes as well as fellow Detroiter's Waajeed and Black Milk, "A Pipe Deam And A Promise" definitely unfolds as one of the best produced albums of 2009 thus far. Make no mistake however, while the production is bursting at the seams with gritty boom bap and transcendent electro laden beats, it isn't the sole reason why it's bangin'. It's Finale's hard edged, descriptive rhymes about his experiences in a city that has so much musical history and that right now is experiencing a Hip-Hop renaissance that powers this excellent debut LP. Honestly, it's the saddest thing in the world right now that Detroit literally owns every other city when it comes to putting out dope Hip-Hop, yet their town is falling apart more rapidly everyday. Between Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick being sent to jail, the average cost of a house being 18,000 dollars, the demise of the big three automobile companies, the soaring murder rate or half of the city's population having abandoned the city limits, Rock City is starting to hit rock bottom, but somehow the music still survives.

Finale is very much so apart of the new and innovative wave of emcee's from the motor city that are really making an impression and are so important to the local and national scene. If you enjoyed Elzhi's "Preface", Guilty Simpson's "Ode To The Ghetto", Black Milk's "Tronic", Illa J's "Yancey Boys" or the Platinum Pied Pipers "Triple P" album's than make room for Finale's "A Pipe Dream And A Promise".
