News: Nate Dogg Rumored Not To Be Doing Well

The Hip-Hop rumor mill has been stirring lately and amongst things we're hearing about MC Hammer allegedly going at Jiggaman and tons of other stuff that really isn't pertinent, we're beginning to also hear some sorted things about Nate Dogg's health...apparently things ain't all good...

Nate has suffered 2 strokes in within the past year and well, anyone would kinda be doin' a lil' less than great after that...

Video Interview: AZ For The Hip Hop Chronicle UK

Back in the day I was a straight up fan of The Firm...yeah, I hated how they nixed Cormega out the group, but they still dropped a pretty decent album nonetheless....

Here, AZ talks about The Firm's possible reunion album and how he believes it's an 80% chance that it'll happen....[Insert my sarcastic yeah the fuck right face here]...don't mis-read me, as an old time fan of the group I'd love to see it happen, but honestly who thinks this is really going down? I mean Foxy stay embroiled in stupid legal shit, Nas has a 100 other things lined up (not to mention some legal woes of his own) and Dr. Dre? LOL, I won't even comment on that one...

Review: KRS-One & True Master - Meta-Historical

The coming together of great minds should always be celebrated and perhaps more importantly, scrutinized. Especially when the two minds that are going to be united are widely considered top notch in their craft. In this particular lane the two minds I speak of are none other than Hip-Hop’s greatest teacher and the 2nd most worthy producer out of arguably rap’s most prolific crew…KRS-One and True Master respectively. Merging their distinctive styles for a whole album titled Meta-Historical, those who pay attention will receive a highly enjoyable lesson, while those who don’t will get more of the same from their rap albums.

Video: Black Milk - Gotta Go

The self proclaimed savior to The D AKA Black Milk drops off another new vid from his latest LP, the brazenly titled "Album Of The year" (that thus far has proven to be anything but).

"Gotta Go" is thee standout track on the entire album and I have started a couple of my days this week w/ it blaring in my headphones...Maybe the album as a whole wasn't "as advertised", but this jawn is def. legit...as well is the vid Milk did up for it that follows him through the streets (and a parking garage?) of Detroit, MI.

Directed by a cat named Anthony Garth , who's worked with everyone from The White Stripes to Phat Kat.

Single: Punchline & Wordsworth - Don't Get Married

Gettin' back up for all of us ex-Lyricist Lounge and Rawkus Records lovin heads is one of the best lyrical duos of all-time, Punchline and Wordsworth...

The amply skilled freestyle and story rappers have teamed up for a new joint off Punch's upcoming street album that takes a bit of a scathing look at the institution of marriage and well, just ain't shit, basic broads too.

Their chemistry will never fall off, and even though they've been spending majority of their time rolling as apart of eMC, joints like this make me fiend out for a new Punch and Words LP....

We still get a hankering for some hardcore rhymin' over here at PHH and while I usually try my best to avoid cats that are only around b/c they were put on by they mans who's a superstar (in this case Ghost) Trife has always been more than on point with his, and once again proves that you shouldn't be forgetting about him anytime soon....

"Trifecta" is a new lil' loose, harcore joint that Trife has put out there for the kids just flex his obvious gift of gab...

Not sure yet if this joint will be on the Theodore Unit member's new album "Diesel Fluid", but I do know that whatever he brings, he should be reliable.

DJ Rahdu - The Creamy Smooth Chronicles: Nuthin But Butter Volume 8

With all the fuck shit that's goin on in Hip-Hop and really, just the stuff that I don't find moving, it kinda is no wonder that so many of my peers are running toward the modern world of R&B, Indie Soul and Neo-Soul like a diabetic toward some insulin....We just really need some new music that has some substance to it, but is still somethin' we can play and groove to...

Have no fear, DJ Rahdu is here...with the eighth installment of his "Creamy Smooth Chronicles" mixtape series...

If your wondering where this man originates from, chances are you never went by BamaLovesSoul before...that's okay...Rahdu got you anyway...This time out he's launching joints from Erykah Badu, Numaads, B. News: Lyfe Jennings Sentenced To Three And A Half Years In Jail

In an unfortunate, but albeit predictable turn of events highly talented R&B crooner Lyfe Jennings was sentenced to serve 3 and a half years in Jail in an Atlanta court yesterday. The sentence came down after an incident in 2008 when Lyfe discharged a firearm and evaded police after a wild domestic dispute. Due to the fact that Lyfe was already an ex-convict who served a decade behind bars I'm sure the final punishment was a lil' heavier...

Kinda sad to see this...Lyfe was one of the newer R&B cats that I could actually stomach and didn't come off like a simp...plenty of his works were tremendously inspirational and artistically heady. It's a downright shame he's going back in. Hopefully he stays positive somehow and we'll hear (literally) from him sometime in 2014...

Here's some parting words he left via Twitter:

This will be my last post. To everyone who gave me a chance I am forever in your debt. I have had a fabulous career because of you. All I can say in parting is that I have been honest with yaw. I didn’t sugarcoat a word didn’t hold back a single syllable of my life from yaw. I’ve lived a hundred lives in these 6 yrs so I not only won’t, i don’t have the right to complain. I would like to think that I’ve changed lives by changing my own, tho I can’t be sure. But one thing I am sure of is God gives and takes away in measure. He is fair, just and forever. Amen from aman… Smile, its contagious:)

Humble words...I've no doubt he can handle this...do the time, don't let the time do you homeboy...See ya in a few.

Video: DJ Muggs & Bambu - Pow Wow Drums

Don't think that b/c I've been busy that I've forgotten bout what's going on in Arizona....Nope! I'm still appalled by that SB1070 bill and I still love seeing when artists share my perspective on what's wrong with it...which is pretty much everything...

Here, L.A. resident and probably the greatest Filipino MC of all time, Bambu links w/ DJ Muggs for another one of their promo vids for their upcoming mixtape "Los Angeles Philippines"...

Muggs is a busy man these days and few DJ/producers are matching not only his output, but also the aesthetcally heady substance of what and who he's working with as well..."Pow Wow Drums" is another example of that.

Single: Hell Razah - Cinematic (prod. by 4th Disciple)

First things first...I'm happy to again report that since recently suffering a brain aneurysm awhile back, Hell Razah is feeling a whole lot better...for that I think we're all really grateful.

Now, onto Razah's music...

Today he let loose another single from his upcoming new album "Heaven Razah"...

"Cinematic" truly takes on it's name as Razah is found painting vivid pictures with his masterful wordplay over an excellent beat source provided by longtime Wu soundsmith 4th Disciple, that is ripe with Blaxploitation vocal samples throughout. This is that real ish'...do your duty and grab it and then get ready to go out and PURCHASE "Heaven Razah" this coming Tuesday, Sept. 28th....

Cover Art: Jay-Z's "Decoded" Book

I know, I know, you hate Jigga now b/c he's so damn corporate...and yes that line of Yankee's gear he came up with is..well, it makes Rocawear look ill nowadays...No matter how you feel about Mr. Carter, I think we'd all agree that is first 2 to three albums (and maybe a few recent ones *cough* "The Black Album" *cough*) are pretty worthy. His new book Decoded promises to decipher some of Jay's better work. 36 of his joints will be examined and their will be illustrations as well.

Might not be a Tao Of The Wu type deal, but it could be okay...here's Hov's take:

"When I first started working on this book, I told my editor that I wanted it to do three important things. The first was to make the case that hip-hop lyrics—not just my lyrics, but those of every great MC—are poetry if you look at them closely enough. The second was I wanted the book to tell a little bit of the story of my generation, to show the context for the choices we made at a violent and chaotic crossroads in recent history. And the third piece was that I wanted the book to show how hip-hop created a way to take a very specific and powerful experience and turn it into a story that everyone in the world could feel and relate to.”

hmmm, poetry? violent and chaotic crossroads? Powerful experiences? Sounds like a winner, I'm down...

This go round' we have a new one from Dramills, name many mixtape heads from the mid and early 2K's should recognize a lil' bit...

Can't say the song itself is really an homage to one of NBA's all-time illest point men, but hey it is what it is...*shrugs*....Think the real story here is the dynamite production, handled by newcomer Soulo...makes this a can't miss DL..

Single: Noreaga - Don't Know What To Do (Big Pun Dedication)

After December it'll have been a decade since Pun passed away...

His legacy and standing as a true lyrical legend at times have been many times lost in the shuffle as Rap has progressed, or rather, degressed, depending how you look at it. He don't get big upped the way guys like Pac and Biggie do now and routinely he's overlooked when fake ass magazine's, blogs and whomever cycle through their bullshit ass "best of's" lists. It is what it is...

Here one of Pun's longtime friends and fellow MC Noreaga paying his respects via a tribute that was originally done around the time Pun passed, but got marginalized in it's release due to Cuban Link's "Flowers For The Dead" being pumped as the primary tribute song for Pun by Fat Joe....admirable shit nonetheless...

"First it was christopher wallace now christopher rios
Me and pun drunk, and smoked out
I used to go to his crib and visit his kids
He used to make his daughter and his son box
Yo I love them kids, they love they pops
Yo pun, pick me up, come to queens with us
You know you came up, what what makin it happen
from rappin on the corner and now you goin platinum
At the video, for banned from tv
Pun came through, in the benz with the tv
A ounce of weed and gun deep
Pun stayed real, yo I love that nigga
Cause he worked hard for it
I burst shit for him

News: Nas Announces "Lost Tapes 2"

On December 14th (a day after yours' truly celebrates his 26th yr. on earth) Nas is planning on releasing the sequel to the very well recieved "The Lost Tapes" album he released back in 2002...

Of course I was a huge fan of the first album and thought that it was so ironic that Nas' collection of unreleased music was almost as impressive as any retail LP he ever dropped....I'm not exactly sure what we're in for this go round' partially b/c I'm pretty sure I've heard just about every Nas record, released or otherwise there is...Either way, gettin some of the longtime unreleased fav.'s in good listening condition won't be anything I'll complain about.

Here's Esco's take:

I’m unloading records I want the streets to hear. Cleaning out my hard drives. Gonna do this, then start fresh. I’m dropping my solo LP before the summer of 2011. I love the energy the world has been giving me over the last two years. But now it’s time to focus on owning the streets again.

we'll just have to wait and see....

Single: Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun ft. Raekwon - Prevail

We've heard a lil' bit about and have highly anticipated the forthcoming collab album between Smif-N-Wessun and Pete Rock , "Monumental" and today it seems we're finally getting our first lil' listen of what it will have to offer...

Teaming up with Wu general (and recent Justin Bieber collaborator) Raekwon for "Previal"; an innately boom bap-sounding gem that is blessed with PR in rare form on the beat the 1st single is decent enough...

I guess Tek and Steele did they thing lyrically, but I won't front, the main reason this joint is gettin' checked for is due to the fact that it'll be Hip-Hop's first heavy dose of new Chocolate Boy Wonder music since early 2008...

Video: DJ Muggs & Bambu - Smoke Smarter

Bambu and DJ Muggs get up for the 1st video off to set off the upcoming release of their collaborative mixtape...

for "Smoke Smarter" ya get some cool back/front porch visuals of Bambu and some cute Philippina blazing a joint...

Pretty standard wordplay for a get high anthem, except for the last minute when Bambu actually kicks some real talk into the ears of all these lil' young dudes that got their priorities messed up behind smokin' too much...remember kiddies, EVERYTHING in moderation...everything.

Expect that Muggs X Bambu tape this Fall.
