Single: XO - Crabs In The Barrel

DC rhyme artist and Diamond District constituent XO gives us a new track off his upcoming project "Monumental" called "Crabs In The Barrel". By the title alone you should be able to discern the general direction.....

No doubt Hip-Hop is filled with a million hard luck stories, some of which are indefinitely Ducktales and some of which well, are as real as San Quintin penitentiary steel. There's no denying one thing though-that being as long as your not rich and a minority, the odds are stacked against you in America....That isn't to say you can't succeed or that you shouldn't try, but there is no denying that most of the time that's the sad, unchanging, bottom line. That bereaved fact directly contributes to a lot of the treachery we perpetrate toward one anther; It's do or die, sink or swim out here, and as a consequence many of us have fully adapted a mentality that makes the single and sole priority of our lives chasing glory at any turn, putting advancement above all else and discarding brotherhood for monetary gains......That's what XO attempts to break down for his listeners on "Crabs In the Barrel"; the state of mind that becomes unique to the under classes and how it ripples out....

And who better to reflect on the actuality of the times than a brutha from the District? I mean while everyone jumps up and down with exhilaration over our first racially mixed president (who is doing a good job BTW), have things really changed for the better in the Chocolate City for the po' black folks? And by extension have they changed that much for any other minorities? XO explores...
