R.I.P. Big Pun

It was nine years ago today that the lyrical Hip-Hop giant known to the world as Big Punisher passed away and left a whole generation of new and old fans heart broken as well as three young children without their dad.

A man of considerable talents and size, Pun was one of the last true Superstars that hailed from NYC. Overcoming a harsh and unforgiving childhood, he rose to stardom through his undeniable talent of rhyming. Molding his style after legends like Kool G Rap, Pun perfected the art of multi-slyllabic verse and rhyme.

He went on to help build the empire that was the Terror Squad, dropped an undisputed classic debut and was a force doing guest spots for what it seemed was anyone in the industry that approached him to do so. A devoted family man, who despite the recent pock marks levied against his character via DVD footage, was someone who's close friends all will attest that he wholeheartedly loved his family and wife.

A man that if you were lucky, you caught doing a live show or met briefly in the street.....A man that looked after his many friends and was still a young kid at heart. Indeed Pun's legend was the only thing that eclipsed his weight....If you speak to anyone that ever rolled with him heavy back in the day they have a million stories about his humorous nature, proud demeanor and devotion to his buddies from the old neighborhood.

The Grammy nominated, hardcore genius was Loved by the entire Bronx boro, New York City as a whole and abroad, especially in Puerto Rico and other Spanish speaking Latin countries. His legacy will forever live on through history as being the first (but hopefully not the last) Latino rapper to go platinum. His story is that of pain and glory and we miss him more every year. R.I.P. Chris....you were the greatest ever.
