Truly dope newness off of Al's upcoming "Chemical Warfare" album, that finds our boy Al exploring new avenues and finding his way actually, doling out a fine vocal and production performance that registers as one of his better outings at attempting to combine both skills.
I was instantly taken by the realness of "Smile", the track itself is just so on time man......We find the uber-talented R&Ber Maxwell and Chi-city rhyme vet Twista both delivering excellent performances over Al's insane flip of somber organ keys, rapid congas (or bongos, I don't know) and a driving bassline. It's Maxwell specifically who charges this joint via his soul drenched vocals. The subject matter is definitely melancholy...exploring the dynamics of hiding one's pain through, of all things a smile......Deep right? lol....If this is any indication of the level at which Alchemist is producing and pairing artists these days, than "Chemical Warfare" is sure to be labeled a Schedule 3 weapon soon....
