Joell Ortiz Covers The Classics Mixtape

If you can manage to tear yourself away from the massive amount of celebrity (and quasi-reality show-celebrity) nude photo's and alleged sex tapes, than I think you'll be pleased to find out that there is a plethora of really ill Hip-Hop droppin' around the net....First and foremost we got this brand new Joell Ortiz mixtape that finds our Brooklyn born, super lyrical emcee covering and re-working a grip of mid-nineties Hip-Hop classics.

Joell cleverly and skillfully drops science throughout the tape, re-hashing this golden era head's good old memory's from the time period. From the ultra dope "Rican Ebonics 09" that finds Joell doing some serious justice to Big L's classic "Ebonics" with a Boriqua twist to "Live At Cooper Day BBQ" where Ortiz kicks verses with the ferocity and preciseness that Nasir himself would be proud of....Everything on here is stellar, no doubt, but it's the "T.R.O.Y." freestyle that really takes the cake...man,...Joell is spoiling folks with this one...

Released via Onsmash.com and with Green Lantern hosting I think we'll be hard pressed to find a better tape, with better rhyming on it for the rest of the year....Joell was just relentless from start to finish here and make no mistake, this isn't just some lazy freestyle session....you can tell easily that he took the time to write and formulate verses for a lot of these classic beats. I couldn't of asked for more....This release combined with what he's doing with Slaughterhouse and the slew of really well done music vid's tell me that Joell Ortiz is poised to make a great run for the rest of 2009....
