Made In America The Mixtape Hosted by Don Cannon And DJ Skee

Broadening off the award winning documentary "Crips And Bloods Made In America" put together by NBA point gaurd and L.A. native Baron Davis we now have "Made In America The Mixtape". Now before you go attacking Hip-Hop, Baron and possibly even me for "promoting gang culture", pump ya breaks and let me explain a few things.....First, if you get a chance to peep the film, please do so, it truly is one of thee very best and most introspective looks at the horrific cycle of gang violence that occurs on the daily in Los Angeles. Second, take a moment and look past the bullet laden cover and realize that even though some promotional tools are at work here, overall the music and imagery on this tape is reflective of the tone of the documentary; the streets in L.A. are beyond brutal at times and the Hip-Hop that is birthed there only mirrors the struggle and what seems to be a vicious cycle of gang violence.

Really I can understand some of the Purehip-hop readers having mixed feelings about a project like this....From afar it definitely looks like maybe this is yet again just another cheesy attempt at profiting off of the pain felt by so many black folks in Cali that came at the hands of Crips and Bloods and their notorious penchant for harming the community. Rest assured there is only cautionary and reportive views expressed via the music on "Made In America"....Sure some of the joints on here are heavily stylized and maybe contain some violent expression, but hey, lets be honest, the theme is violent....

Featuring a plethora of talented west coast emcees in the lineup helps keep things interesting.....there are a few misses though and a few joints that do sorta deviate from the theme it seems, but overall definitely worth a listen.....
