Single: Vast Aire ft. Genisis - Battle Of The Planets (Scream Phoenix)

It wasn't so long ago that when you spoke on the illest underground labels you would inevitably have to mention Def Jux. Headed by multi-talented Producer, MC, and businessman El-P, it wasn't long before El bounced off the Rawkus roster with his group Company Flow to begin his own imprint that would become world renowned and almost synonymous with alternative Hip-Hop. It's name is Def Jux and it wouldn't be long before the upstart label started producing celebrated acts itself, most notably, the Harlem bred duo Cannibal Ox (Vordul Mega and Vast Aire).

At one point things were going fine by all accounts....Can Ox's first album "The Cold Vein" was getting good reviews at the turn of the century and has been growing a nice lil' legacy ever since. Unfortunately Vast's relationship with El-P hasn't quite mirrored the same longstanding fondness. Around 06' or 07' Vast killed off rumors of a new Can Ox LP on Def Jux and broke ties with the label as well as The Weathermen; another group that El-P produces for and has membership in.

Since the split there has been much back and forth bickering, and after the untimely death of Def Jux artist and close friend Camu Tao, things intensified. Vast Aire not only continued to throw shots toward EL-P, but also began lobbing insults toward frequent El-P collaborator and one time label mate Cage.

Everything came to a culmination yesterday it would seem, as Vast unleashed this scathing attack on not only El-P, but Cage and Def Jux as a whole. The day before this was released Vast wrote out a Myspace blog entry titled "It's Like That And That's The Way It Is", explaining in great detail the alleged shiesty business practices of El and shedding light on where this whole beef between him and some of the Def Jux artist's started....Today El-P did respond however...

I'll let you guys sift through the rants and accusations and you can peep both Vast's Myspace post and El-P's somewhat poetic response below...

....pretty hard to call no? In any case, despite it being a bit negative and "small"of me (according to El-P's logic) I'm bringing you guys Vast's latest joint "Battle Of The Planets"....
