Video: Tragedy In The Studio With DJ Krush In 97'

Okay, let's get back to the real ish' for just a moment kiddies....

I came across this vid today on another blog and it really sent me back in time. The footage is of Tragedy Khadafi and Japanese DJ/producer DJ Krush working in the studio on the track "Real" which was off of Krush's excellent 1997 LP "Milight".

Roughly translating to mean the word "future", "Milight" was a wonderful (and IMO the best) stroll into Krush's beatmaking abilities. The album contained some guest emceeing but was comprised mainly of down tempo, boom bapped goodies. Krush's unique style of flipping soul and Jazz into these vast and expansive pallets of ambient sound was to me, the closest anyone ever came to DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" masterpiece...Fitting really, since the two men and both the "Milight" and "Endtroducing" albums were cornerstones of the legendary Mo Wax Record label during the 90's.

Krush has kept busy in recent years with new releases that have further delved into his musical creativity and diversity and since 2007 has been doing a good bit of collaborating with American bassist and label head Bill Laswell and is still churning out dope music that contains hints of Hip-Hop DJing and production...

Tragedy on the other hand hasn't really had the same luck. As I've chronicled many times on Purehip-hop blog, Trag AKA Percy Chapman was busted in 2007 for the sale of narcotics and subsequently handed an indefinite 4 year prison term...

He's scheduled to be released in January, 2011...
