R.I.P. Pimp C

Today is the death anniversary of one of Texas' all-time great Hip-Hop luminaries Chad Butler AKA Pimp C of the legendary Port Author based duo UGK.

Butler and his best friend from high school Bun B formed UGK in 1992 and would go on to forever change the Houston rap scene. Starting out rhyming about rough and tumble tales of a Texas street tuff, C was a natural talent on the mic who possessed a witty technique and an unmistakable southern drawl....

Despite having to serve 3 years in prison for violating his probation in 2002, Butler was able to successfully resume his recording career upon his release in 05' and paved the way for countless southern artists to come.

Two years ago on this day Butler was found dead in a room at the Mondrian hotel in Los Angeles. He had past away in his sleep due to an accidental overdose of promethazine and codeine cough syrup coupled with the pre-existing condition of sleep apnea.

Butler was only 33 years old...
