Review: yU - Before Taxes



One thing that always bugged me about Washington D.C. was that within the scope of Hip-Hop, the Chocolate City really never had a big national star or even a firm underground presence. Of course there were local cats doing their thing in The District since the 80’s and probably even well before, but the region’s true love undeniably is go-go music and that’s just that. Of course the funky genre that was created by the legendary Chuck Brown and his band the Soul Searchers is still the choice du jour among many locals, but in modern times we’ve seen a fresh new generation spring up in the D.C., Maryland and Virgina (The DMV respectively) area’s that is boasting some of the best boom bapped and soul sample heavy Hip-Hop I’ve heard in some time…
