Wizdom - Bring It Back EP

Boom Bap and Soul inspired MC Wizdom drops his new 7 song EP on us titled "Bring It Back", that aims to do exactly what it states....

The Seattle bred, sneaker enthusiast MC is at first listen like a cross between the voice of Common Market frontman RA Scion and the appearance of mixtape DJ J-Love, with an added beard/goatee....LOL..all silly observations aside, Wizdom has some great music for you real lovers of soul, funk and honest MCing....

My personal favorite track is "Those Were The Days". The jazzy instrumental loops in the background as Wiz takes you for a walk down his memory lane, acutely describing his youth and young adulthood. Bumped that shit a good three times walkin around Denver today doin some record diggin'...

It's only when Wiz ventures into more hard edged subjects that he sort of becomes a lil' more off putting...The simple production and un-thoughtful, borderline uncharacteristic verses on joints like "Press Ya Luck" and "Fly As We Is" make it tough to give the EP a "no track skip" stamp of approval. Wiz, we like ya music for the fact that you drop knowledge on it man, save that cheap open mic hardcore act for, well, don't save it...

Rest assured though, Wiz does manage to more than make up for those two monumental mis-steps with joints like "Come Too Far" and the title track "Bring It Back 2009". Both are the type of musical direction Wiz needs to take IMO....

On a side note, who would love to hear a collabo album with this guy and Jake One? *Raises hand*, not to say that some of the cats supplying him now ain't sharp wit it (hats off to DJ NpHared, for finessing that "Those Were The Days" beat), but yo, Seattle would love that collaboration, and in turn real heads across the country and world would love that....

Cool lil' EP, a few really dope moments...def. worth peepin' ya'll.

Gets a 7 outta 10...
